A senior member of David Cameron's Tory constituency association has been found dead in a toilet at Glastonbury Festival, the BBC understands.

The body of Christopher Shale, chairman of West Oxfordshire Conservative Association, was found at about 0900 BST at the music event in Somerset.

Police cordoned off the hospitality area where his body was found and are investigating the cause of death.

Mr Shale is understood to be a close friend of Prime Minister David Cameron.

1. The Telegraph is saying possible suicide:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/glastonbury/8599479/David-Camerons-local-Tory-chairman-found-dead-in-Glastonbury-toilet.html

The festival organiser Michael Eavis spoke of his sadness over the death during a press conference later.

The 75-year-old farmer was told it was suicide - but police said it was still too early to say.

Mr Eavis said: “Apparently I'm told it was a suicide situation in the early hours of this morning. It was in the Winnebago area. It's very very sad - I can't say too much about it.”

If it IS suicide, of all places to off one's self, I cannot think of a more disgusting place...

6. Get a load of this, from the Mirror: Shale death followed leaked report
Edited on Sun Jun-26-11 10:50 AM by Poll_Blind
From this:
Christopher Shale's mysterious death at the Glastonbury Festival has come just hours after the senior Tory was quoted as saying there was "no reason" to join his party.

A scathing report attributed to the chairman of West Oxfordshire Conservative Association - who was found dead in a portable toilet in the backstage area of the event - was leaked to the Mail on Sunday.

--snip--

The wealthy businessman, who was chief executive of Oxford Resources Ltd, a cost reduction company based in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, wrote of his party in a strategy document claiming there was "no reason to join. Lots of reasons not to".

The Prime Minister's close ally also attacked his own association's fundraising efforts. He wrote: "Over the years we have come across as graceless, voracious, crass, always on the take."

The paper reported how Mr Shale concluded that people do not join the Conservatives because they "think we'll beg and steal from them. And they're right".

:wtf:

10. Death follows leaked report of Shale criticizing Tories
"Senior Tory Christopher Shale found dead at Glastonbury festival"
David Cameron pays tribute to 'a big rock in my life' after Shale is found in toilet on day his strategy documents were leaked
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011/jun/26/tory-christopher-shale-dead-glastonbury
The body of Shale, 56, a close political ally of David Cameron, was discovered on Sunday morning hours after he was quoted in a Conservative strategy document leaked to a Sunday newspaper, as saying the Tories had come across over the years as "graceless, voracious, crass, always on the take" and needed to radically change.

Rupert Soames, a businessman and friend of Shale who was at Glastonbury and has been helping co-ordinate arrangements following the sudden death of his friend said through a spokesman that medics had told him and Shale's family that they believe he died of a massive heart attack "around lunchtime" on Saturday.

~~~
Michael Eavis, the festival organiser had earlier told a press conference: "We're told it is a suicide situation. It is very, very sad."
This looks to be the article in the Daily Mirror referred to above:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2008127/JAMES-FORSYTH-Theres-reason-join-Tories-Weve-come-voracious-crass--Who-says-Daves-constituency-chairman.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
'There's no reason to join the Tories. We've come over as voracious, crass, always on the take' - Who says so? Dave's own constituency chairman
There's absolutely no reason to join the Conservative Party – and that’s according to David Cameron’s own constituency chairman, Christopher Shale.
In a strategy document seen by The Mail on Sunday, Mr Shale admits that at present there’s ‘no reason to join. Lots of reasons not to’.
The paper, of which Cameron is aware, presents a scathing assessment of the social skills and fundraising efforts of his association.
This is all sounding very familiar.
