Gun lobby goes live as Air America fades
America's gun lobby, already one of the most powerful political constituencies, moves to extend its range today by launching a daily internet radio programme.

The radio outlet, which goes on air with a three-hour chatshow, is the first phase of a web-based radio and television empire intended to spread the word that Americans need more guns.

It launches with an investment of $1m (£575,000), and audience potential with 4 million members of the National Rifle Assocition, and 80 million gun owners in the US.

Wayne LaPierre, the NRA executive vice-president, told the Associated Press he wanted the network to be seen as a legitimate source of news - "just as Disney owns ABC, just as GE owns NBC, just as Time Warner AOL owns CNN, and be the broadcast journalist equivalent of those outlets".

But the launch of the radio outlet is intensely political. In this election season, right and left are trying to get the word out to the American voter.

4. Wow, 24 hours of gun news!
Gawd bless America! At least it'll keep the gun-nuts inside, instead of having them roam the streets armed to the teeth.

5. Great news!
Unless they carry Ru$h and some of the other hate-mongers, it should dilute their audience. Know what I mean, Vern?

8. I vote that you keep the Ernest P. Worrel image...
and end every post with "Know whudda mean, Vern?"

Or at least for a few hundred posts...that would really brighten my week...

10. He did commercials for "Pine State" Milk in the late 70's & early 80's...
in North Carolina...they were violent-with "Vern" always lighting him on fire or pushing him off a ladder- and pretty funny..

15. I was in Houston then. He was big.
I always thought he was "local." He just gave that down-home impression. The ad-mans dream, I guess. He was always the butt of the joke in the Houston TV ad market, too. Funny guy. I think he might have ended up on SNL, or his own program. Again, too bad. Our big loss.

Let them know that Ms Goldenberg has an agenda or she must be the stupidest reporter in town. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she must be Drudge's girlfriend...

My letter to the Guardian...
Either Ms. Goldenberg is a rookie reporter or she's Matt Drudges Girlfriend. Either way, she didn't check her facts before going to print on this story. I respected the Guardian. Noticed the word Respected, ED. As in, past tense.

Even Reuters, aka media whores got it right. You might want to 'school' Ms. Goldenberg on the basics of Journalism.

Peace - OUT!

13. Done.
I'm an Air America streamer or "sitter at my desk and do nothing for 4 hours" while Randi Rhodes is on cause there is no station here.

The bizarre thing it is has completely OBLITERATED my tolerance for cable news. I CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE. I am surprised by this, because I did not think it would affect that area. I just used to use and industrial strength mental filter when I turned it on, but since the start up of AAR, I only turn cable news on if I find out something big has happened from the internet.

I sent my e-mail to the Guardian itself, cause like someone said, she's probably not responsible for the headline.

14. I totally understand where you're coming from..........
though for me, it's gone even further.....I don't even listen to NPR anymore; though 'Coast to Coast' still makes the cut.

16. Yeah, that's the ticket, let's slaughter them because we don't know
where they got their information and we really hope it's wrong. I hear Brits really love Americans and our tolerance and maturity.

I mean, I expect it from Rush-nazis. Guess some people are showing their true colors.

17. Give the gun lobby credit, though...
...They'll only stop masturbating when you pry their penis from their cold, dead hand.
