Ryan Dunn, star of MTV TV and film franchise Jackass, was killed in a car crash early on Monday morning.

The 34-year-old and another passenger died at about 2.30am local time when the car they were travelling in hit a tree and burst into flames in West Goshen, Pennsylvania, NBC Philadelphia reported.

Dunn was identified by his tattoos, according to a witness who was on the scene when the bodies were pulled from the wreckage.

The mother of Dunn's Jackass co-star Bam Margera reportedly called a local radio station to confirm that he was killed in a car accident.

"Jackass" star Ryan Dunn was killed early Monday morning when his Porsche flew over a guardrail in West Goshen, Pa., slammed into a tree and burst into flames, according to local police.

Dunn's passenger -- who police have not identified -- was also killed.

Dunn, 34, was identified by his tattoos, according to a witness who was on the scene when the bodies were pulled from the wreckage.

The Porsche shot through about 40 yards of trees before it hit the last one and exploded into flames, according to police. The police press release (http://media.nbcphiladelphia.com/documents/Press+release+Ryan+Dunn.pdf">.PDF) reads, "Preliminary investigation revealed that speed may have been a contributing factor to the accident."

Dunn was last seen at Barnaby's of America in West Chester in the hours before the accident. "Ryan didn't appear drunk before he left," Barnaby's manager told NBC Philadelphia.

doesn't sound like I missed much. What a wasted life. lived like an ass and if early indications of drunk driving are correct, died like an ass. Plus killed a friend.

23. I wonder how many other idiots make mistakes imitating this fool and his flock
"Mistakes" that kill, maim, paralyze all in the name of light-hearted entertainment.

Driving while drunk is not a mistake. It is a felony and a fucking disgrace.

Yes, people do make mistakes that kill, main, and paralyze, but not as entertainment. Accidents are never mistakes? I guess you don't know anyone you care about who has ever been in a car accident.

41. You ask "Accidents are never mistakes?"
Yes accidents are mistakes. This wasn't an accident. Unless he never realized that if you drink heavily it impaires judgement then it was a choice. He choose to drink, he choose to drive, he choose to do 110 and he choose to die. He could have killed people in the meantime.

I liked the show Jackass and didn't have any problem with his entertainment. But he is a horse's ass for what he did and I don't feel sorry for him.

48. There's no point in feeling sorry for him - he's dead and doesn't care.
That doesn't mean that you can't feel sorry for the people who loved him. "Oh, that's how your son died? Fuck off." doesn't work for me.

26. There are mistakes and then there is criminal behavior.
Still, no one should die like that.

But didn't he earn his living being a "jackass"? I didn't ever watch the show or movies; left the room when my adolescent sons were watching and guffawing over the stupidity on the screen. I'm thankful they are smarter than to emulate (cf. immolate) that behavior. It does seem ironic that he died doing something stupid.

Like I said, though, no one should die like that.

27. He was a professional, and very good at what he did.
You may not find it entertaining, but it was all in good fun, and all done by professionals who were never seriously hurt on the job. I happen to think that watching real people perform stunts is far more honest and entertaining than so many shows and movies that glorify violence and misogyny. The difference is that on Jackass, they also were very upfront about how these things were being done by professionals and should never be imitated by amateurs. I wish more forms of entertainment would come with such disclaimers.

32. Thanks for clarifying that.

I did admit that I never watched the show or movies. I happened to catch a segment where an alligator or crocodile was snapping at a guy's crotch, which seems an odd profession, but I believe you!

I have pretty much given up TV except for Doctor Who (and don't even watch that since Amy Pond became the companion). I actually came back here to self-delete my comment but will leave it because what you said is important for anyone who is thinking what I posted.

on edit: To clarify my post, by "criminal behavior" I meant drunk driving, not anything he did onscreen. I did read that he had tweeted pictures earlier in the evening of himself with beer in hand.

33. I don't watch much tv myself...
but when I was in grad school, my roommates and I watched the jackass movie a lot. It was a great way for us to relax and have a good time while being stressed out and poor. The guy may have been drunk driving, but I don't think it has anything to do with his job. So many people get in these kinds of accidents, and it's almost always a tragedy, and almost always has nothing to do with their job. I doubt he was being paid to have drinks with friends.

Even if that was the case, things like this sometimes happen. It's a tragedy for everyone involved. I'm glad that you've happened to live a life where things like this don't happen to people you care about. I haven't been so lucky.

42. So your argument is "Things like this sometimes happen..."
So that means the next time i'm shitfaced i should get behind the wheel and drive 110 mph? I could easily justify by saying "Things like this sometimes happen." I hit a family of four driving home from a night out and kill them. "Oops, sometimes things like this happen."

I'm sorry you have experienced some bad things that have happened to family/friends. We all have. But choosing to get plowed, drive erratically, etc. is not by chance. It is a decision. A bad one.

47. Of course it's a bad decision.
When I was a kid and one of my brother's best friends killed another of their best friends in a drunk driving accident, do you think he was happy about it? No, he wasn't. He went to prison (rightfully so), but that could never remove the utter shame, pain, and remorse of the act that he will carry with him for the rest of his life. It is certainly an awful decision, but good people sometimes make these kind of bad decisions. If we start down a road where we condemn people based on single decisions they make, where do we draw the line in deciding who is a good and bad person?

52. How do you know it was one bad decision that he made
Maybe he made the decision 100 times before to drive intoxicated and this time he paid the price. Do I consider someone who gets hammered, gets behind a very heavy piece of steel, drives over 100 mph, and crashes to their fiery death a bad person? Yes.

I read a few months ago about a lady who got so mad at her baby she threw it out a car window while driving. Do I consider her a bad perso for making that single decision? Fuck yeah I do. Do I think Andrea Yates who offed her kids a bad person for her single decision? Oh yes I do.

Two people died. We will never know exactly how or why. I find that to be tragic. Trust me, their loved ones who had to get phone calls or visits from the police telling them about this also find it to be tragic. 30-something isn't exactly a ripe old age.

Whatever the reason doesn't make it non-tragic. I've lost loved ones to disease, suicide, car accidents, etc. I don't think there's one way I would pick over another on the tragedy scale.

15. Yeah I just saw some of this on tmz.com - drinking and driving claims two more victims.
What a waste.

I told my son and his girlfriend - they hadn't heard yet but they were visibly shocked. So I posted it on my Facebook page because I'm involved with quite a few young people at the moment and I know they sometimes check my page and sometimes they post there. It's a cautionary tale for sure. I pointed out how this shit is irreversible. This dude is GONE. He's DONE. It's OVER. FOREVER. And the two of them responded straight away, and seriously straight-faced - "yeah. No kidding. Done. Ryan Done."

What a waste. Hopefully some other Jackass wannabe might be spared after seeing this. Drinking and driving messes with your judgment - assuming you had any to begin with.
