Tens of thousands protest against cuts in Madrid
Source: AFP

Tens of thousands of protesters flooded the streets of Madrid Sunday blaming bankers and politicians for causing a financial crisis that forced the country to adopt painful spending cuts.

Demonstrators of all ages linked to a protest movement called the "indignants" assembled early Sunday in several neighbourhoods on the outskirts of Madrid.

They then formed six columns and converged on the city centre, gathering near Spain's parliament where they met various forms of police resistance, including 12 vans blocking several major roads.

Protests over the economic crisis and soaring unemployment began in Madrid on May 15 and fanned out nationwide as word spread by Twitter and Facebook among demonstrators.

1. Lets see.. Bankers caused the crisis, get bailed out, then they expect the people to pay
Sounds like the seeds of a revolt are there.

3. The "indignados" of Spain are all over

indignados = indignant (or better yet, "the angry," or "the fed up."

Over the weekend there were solidarity demonstrations, organized on Facebook and other social media, mostly at Spanish embassies and consulates in

New York (at New York University)
Copenhagen
London
Paris (tear gas)
Berlin, at the Brandenburg Gate
Prague
Lima, Peru
Santiago, Chile
Sao Paulo
Rio de Janeiro

There were probably more.

4. Meanwhile, Obama pushes "trade agreements," which are in fact
giveaways to international corporations and banks. Just setting us up for the inevitable failure of our economy and "necessary" (of course) austerity programs that harm the middle class and poor in our country even more than they have already been harmed.

Injury to insult. Create a huge deficit by fighting wars of aggression and entering into harmful trade contracts and then make ordinary people pay for the waste and corruption.

When will we wise up?
