East Bay Doomsayer Harold Camping suffers stroke
Source: Oakland Tribune

Harold Camping, the Doomsday radio preacher who sparked international media attention by predicting the end of the world last month, has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke at his Alameda home Thursday night.

The 89-year-old radio evangelist and president of the Oakland nonprofit Family Radio was taken by ambulance from his house Thursday night, a neighbor said, but his well-known, gravelly voice that led many believers to donate millions of dollars to his cause may never be the same.

"He had a stroke, it was on his right side," said the neighbor, who declined to give her name but said she and her husband helped and comforted Camping's wife, Shirley, as the drama unfolded Thursday night.

... There was no answer at the door of the Camping home Saturday afternoon and all of the curtains and blinds were drawn. A GMC pickup with a Family Radio bumpersticker and a white Buick sat in the driveway.

5. How I remember hearing, from the Bible, "No man knoweth other than Harold Camping"
or maybe it was "However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows, and Harold Camping."

Maybe he has been seeing his own personal approaching "end of the world" all this time. Right-wingers are always prone to confusing their own interests for everyone else's.

10. For whatever this is worth...
DUers who know me know I'm a Christian, and I just want to go on record as saying that 100% of the Christians I know...including several pastors...viewed the whole Camping "phenomenon" as a joke. They just laugh this guy off.

11. Christianity comes in many flavors
Then again, my definition of a Christian is simply one who wants to emulate Christ

So, in theory, you could have an Atheistic Christian

19. Why is he accepting medical treatment?
He seems like the type of guy who would support the power of prayer over medicine.

23. Yes, I would agree. He should just ask the lord to accept in on an...
early admissions basis.

Before the next date, he can have an advanced entry ticket.

Oh how people like this are so nineteenth, early twentieth century.

but I won't.

Oh hell, yes, I will.

While he may have had a stroke, I don't believe it.

the neighbors are the ones who stated he had the stroke, then comforted his wife.

sounds like his wife said that he had a stroke and told the neighbors to speak to the press.

the guy is a scammer and when a scammer gets caught in a scam, they pull this kind of BS.

Until I see the guys medical report, I believe nothing.

Yeah, that's pretty harsh, but this bastard bilked a lot of people out of their money with his bullshit. there have been people who have died because of his horse shit.

So fuck him and his wife if I don't believe a damn thing they say.

and if it turns out he did have a stroke, well then, it serves him right. Not because I'm religious, because that would be a vengeful act, (I'm an atheist), but because of the scam he perpetrated upon the gullible.

That poor dude in Staten Island who gave up his savings because he believed this halfwit grifter. That crazy woman who tried killing herself and her kids because she was afraid of not being "raptured". The list goes on.

camping is a vile creature.
