CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Keithley Instruments, a Solon high-tech company, is sending hundreds of manufacturing jobs to China.

Keithley, which makes testing equipment for the electronics industry and the U.S. government, will maintain its research and development offices in Solon and continue manufacturing equipment with "made in the USA" requirements, Amy Malagamba, spokeswoman for Keithley's parent company Tektronix, said in an email.

Malagamba declined to say how many jobs would remain. The company has about 350 workers in Solon between its manufacturing and research departments.

"This decision was reached after lengthy evaluation and analysis of a number of alternatives, and was determined to be in the best interest of Keithley's long-term competitiveness," Malagamba said.

3. C-town...
just can't catch a break. I feel for my adopted home town. I was born in Steubenville, OH (another city that fell from greatness), but spent my teenage years in Cleveland. To this day when people ask me where I am from, I proudly say "Cleveland". It is a city that had to play 3rd string to the likes of NYC and Chicago, but still managed to grab a few glories (World class orchestra, theater district second only to NYC, and a public library system all should envy). Cleveland Rocks in more ways than one.

4. Danaher - a holding company
owns them now and this is what they do to the American companies they buy. They own about 100 companies now. The owners are two brothers who came out of Harvard Business School. They have put many Americans out of work and employed many Chinese in making their tremendous wealth. One of the brothers owns a huge art collection.

If they will do to Keithley what they have done to other company's products, they will cheapen the quality having made the decision that there is no need for top quality products.
One company they purchased had their manufacturing moved to China - it was a top of the line precise equipment company. They have had some voluntary recalls after their products started on fire.
These greedy people make me sick.

9. I have a few times
but they never go anywhere. These holding companies and private equity firms are pretty much under the radar so I try to post what they are up to - shipping jobs overseas, gutting companies for their cash and forcing some into bankruptcy. They get tax benefits for doing it too.
Our politicians must know what is going on.

11. Dirty, rotten business...
Of course the politicians know what's going on -- a lot end up working or lobbying for these firms after their government careers end.
