Libyan woman who claimed rape leaves to US
Source: Associated Press

BENGHAZI, Libya (AP) — A relative says a Libyan woman who claimed she was raped by Gadhafi troops says she has left Libya on her way to the United States.

-snip-
The sister told The Associated Press that a human rights group aided by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arranged for Iman and their father to travel in a private plane to the US by way of Malta and Austria.

In March, Iman al-Obeidi burst into a hotel in the Libyan capital of Tripoli where foreign journalists were staying to tell her story of being gang raped by Gadhafi militiamen.

Several days ago she was suddenly deported from Qatar, where she was seeking asylum.
She was flown to Benghazi, the de facto capital of Libya's rebels.

4. I wonder why Qatar tossed her out.
"Iman wanted to travel directly to America from Qatar, but for some logistical reasons Qatar wouldn't allow it. That's when they didn't treat us very nicely," said Marwa al-Obeidi . She and her mother refused to let AP photographers or TV crews take their pictures.

5. Grant her permanent sanctuary...
... if she wants it. Give her any and all help she may need to recover from her trauma. I am outraged at her ordeal as I am at any woman's similar violation.

6. Amazing, she gets private jet but anyone from Sub Saharan Africa
gets jack. Too bad they didn't have oil and we want to start a war to get it.
