49. I just read an article
that the citizenry of Zurich, Switzerland voted to continue their 'Tourism Suicide.' I had no idea that one could go there so to pass away in peace. Does Oregon still allow assisted suicide?

RIP, Dr. K. Or come back in ghostly fashion and give those you made you suffer a nice scare....BOO!

My mother, who was terrified of being kept alive on machines, (aren't we all?), would always tell us to "Call Jack" before we allowed that to happen. Jack was a brave and compassionate man.

3. My uncle (a retired physician) worked in the same medical office with Dr. K many years ago
-apparently, Dr K. was a bit odd. He had some unusual (but possibly progressive) ideas about the potential uses of human cadavers for medical and research purposes. Some people think outside the box.

60. Perhaps izquierdista was thinking of this
Out of Kevorkian's more than 130 victims, a minority had terminal illnesses; most were people with disabilities who were not terminally ill. According to a review of Kevorkian's victims by the Detroit Free Press in 1997, 60% did not have terminal conditions.

What a farked up country we live in. We put hero's like him in prison while war criminals walk the streets with impunity. It truly makes me sad and angry.

Everyone I know is sick of how this place is operating.

This man was just ahead of the curve. Listening to him, I remember hearing a very clear and intelligent person.

I'm also part Armenian.

7. My aunt worked as a lab tech for him for years.
She said he was very eccentric, but that
he was BY FAR, the fairest doctor she ever
took orders from. He treated everyone with
the same curt respect and didn't play favorites.

She will be sorry to hear this.

She's 85 and in a nursing home.

You helped force society to see that one can have death with dignity and one does not have to suffer for years before the inevitable.

God damn the do-gooders that saw to it that you served 8 years in jail.

Peace to you, sir.

25. VIDEO LINKS & A Man Who Actually LIVED His Personal Intergrity.
I only knew of him by his work and the portrayal of him in the media but some of the things he said were incredibly enlightening and shined light into the dark places where many people don't like to go.

No Joke on this subject will be made...in this week's INR episode...unless we come up with a really good one that respects him and sends up those who didn't understand his living his integrity regardless of the personal cost to him. I think history will look back and see him as a man WAY ahead of his time...that is unless we really turn into an idiocracy.

39. No 800 number.
When my dad had leukemia in 2000, and decided not to go through chemotherapy, he said "Dr. Kevorkian doesn't have an 800 number" as his excuse for dying at the ripe old age of 88.

Thanks, Dr. Jack.

I also knew a dr. in Houston who had been a pathologist in Detroit and therefore knew Dr. Kevorkian. This doc thought he was very professional.

Truly a brave and compassionate American. "You Don't Know Jack" was an enlightening experience to watch. I lived through his era, but never put the pieces together because I was too busy growing up...but the movie connected the dots, and it's a shame this country wasn't behind him all the way.

This is pure conjecture but I think he was a bit on the Aspergers' Syndrome spectrum. He thought in terms of logic and not emotion to an extreme. It just didn't make sense to him that someone who wanted to die shouldn't be able to do so.

RIP Jack. You have my respect and gratitude.

The idea that someone could choose it voluntarily is seen as prima facie evidence of mental illness, and anyone who supports the right to make that choice is often seen as a potential criminal.
