Climate to wreak havoc on food supply, predicts report

Areas where food supplies could be worst hit by climate change have been identified in a report.

Some areas in the tropics face famine because of failing food production, an international research group says.

The Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) predicts large parts of South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa will be worst affected.

Its report points out that hundreds of millions of people in these regions are already experiencing a food crisis.

2. And, in case anybody didn't notice, American crops
in Texas and along the Mississippi are not having a swell time, either.

3. Even the UK has been affected
by current drought conditions. The rain necessary to swell the crops just hasn't occurred - wheat is only half the height it should be.

The issue everywhere is also that of farmers going out of business which will further reduce availability of crops.

6. Wettest spring EVER here in Vermont
Farmers are forced to have serious doubts about their crops already. The old record (1983) was smashed; this year was more than 25% wetter. Hell, in some areas roads and bridges are washed out.

8. Indeed. The farm field behind my back yard still isn't even plowed
And there's a bit of standing water in tire tracks left from the last time the farmer tried (and failed) to plow a few weeks ago.
