New Mexico plans to stop food stamp supplement for elderly

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez's administration proposes to end a program that supplements federal food stamp benefits for about 4,000 low-income elderly and disabled New Mexicans.

The Human Services Department plans to stop the assistance on July 1 because there's no money in the state budget for it.

The program cost nearly a half million dollars last year.

We elect a lot of Democrats ; currently both Senators and 2 out of 3 Congressman, and majorities in both the state Senate and House etc but we had a Repub Congressperson in this district for years, and Pete Domenici is like a god here... so we also have elected right wingers, and Martinez is about as vile as they get. She had a lot of Texas oil money behind her, and a weak Democratic opponent too. Still, no excuse for electing someone as sickening as Susanna Martinez.
