Anti-abortion groups raise stakes by deploying US tactics on UK streets
Source: The Guardian

A sleepy sidestreet near the centre of Maidstone may seem an unlikely frontline in the conflict that has bubbled away, usually with relative calm, since Britain legalised abortion in 1967.

But on a recent weekday afternoon in Kent's county town, a group of a dozen anti-abortion protesters, led by a veteran of the movement in the US, began their latest "prayer vigil" directly across the road from a Marie Stopes clinic.

Over the course of two hours, members of the group intercepted young women approaching the clinic from either end of the street to hand them literature and engage in conversation, while the protesters themselves became the target of shouts of "disgusting" and "shame" from angry passersby.

The protesters hail from the Helpers of God's Precious Infants anti-abortion group and are led by Monsignor Philip Reilly, who has travelled from the US to meet British supporters.

7. I'm not so sure
I think that the real people in Old Europe will stack up a big pile of bodies if the fundies try to take over there. Here the left and center are just too cowardly to fight back. Not so over there.

2. The same old crazy that are obsessed with what a woman does with her organs?
...is this the, "Love the fetus, Hate the Child and Mother" crowd?

Oh ya...and they love to kill, kill, kill...war, execution, extermination but no abortion?

Sickos.

This clowns, are just not getting it are they?.. Most europerans, specially in Western Europe just dosen't care about if abort is legal or not.. In fact I belive that fighting abort is like trying to make a dead horse live in most of Western Europe..

And Im a little "conservative" when it came to abort - but I respect the law of the land, and it is legal to make an abortion and this is something we who have some doubt about it just have to accept and repect.. Woman have the right to deside what is best for THEIR body. This is just stupidity and wil just make woman, who have taken the hard desision to make an abortion feel worse than they alleready are doing.. No woman want to take an abort just for the fun of it..

But I know that in US, its an all different way of doing this.. There they bomb clinics and kill doctors... In most of Europe they have to behave in a whole different matter.. If they was trying to do that in most of Europe, they might get a long prison time, instead of a hero whorship..

5. "Pro-lifer's" tried this a decade or so ago and got thrown out --
Maybe they think the political climate in UK has improved for them?

Here in US, they solicited protesters from Methadone clinics, paying them --

and, according to feminist organizations which tried to prosecute under our RICO

laws, they were funded by white militia groups.

Also, of course, given political coverage by GOP and RW presidents like Reagan --

and many Catholic Fundi in Congress -- that's how they got to passing the BS

"partial truth abortion" --
