French minister accused of rape resigns

A minister accused of sexually assaulting two women he once worked with resigned Sunday in an apparent bid to spare the French government the kind of notoriety the opposition has faced since its leading man, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was charged with attempting to rape a Manhattan hotel maid.

A preliminary investigation was opened last week against George Tron, who served as a junior civil service minister, after two women alleged that he had attacked them between 2007 and 2010.

One of the women said she was inspired to come forward after a housekeeper at a luxury Manhattan hotel claimed she was sexually assaulted by Strauss-Kahn, 62, a leading presidential hopeful in next year's elections for the rival Socialist Party. He resigned his post as International Monetary Fund chief after charges were filed in New York.

Tron, 53, is a member of President Nicolas Sarkozy's conservative UMP party who joined the government just over a year ago.

9. there is a problem here among some segments of French men.
apparently those with power and money can do what they want. It gives all France a black eye the same way pedo priests give the Catholic church a black eye. France needs to actually practice egalite in the way they approach crimes like this. Then these predators would either get caught or not do this stupid shit. It isn't being anti-French to see a problem here at all. There IS a problem.

10. French men are not alone
and I wasn't defending them either. It is a problem with all men in all countries who have any power, and all men have power over women. Men have been told for many centuries that they are all and have dominion over the entire world and its contents, including people. It is preached from pulpits, shouted from governments and repeated in all segments of society.

And I'm sure I'm offending all men and most women with this statement.

11. no. the problem is world wide but the French own this problem. Their
initial reaction in the press was who the hell was she to complain? Since it appears they hold this attitude to a really great degree, they have a problem and they can't complain if other places see it that way. fix it or live with it.

17. It was before he beat Hillary in the primaries
he was in SC in an auto plant I believe. Rushing out the door, but it did cause a teevee stir. Google knows all.

But on the other hand, he is the best we can muster in the moment and we have more pressing problems.

I don't imagine you'd be ok with someone asking on a different thread "what is wrong with women?"

8. Minister in this case doesn't relate to religion - it's the term they
use as the US would use for a government position like Secretary or Under Secretary.

But you couldn't have been that stupid so it's more likely you really knew but pretended otherwise so you could slam anyone professing faith, n'est pas?
