3. Curiously, despite all of the nasty-ass winds and rain, four of our 12 peanuts have sprouted.
We're in the Harrisburg, PA area, so it isn't exactly late in the peanut season here. They STILL take 120 days! They grow well here, and I got a good crop in New Hampshire. It is fun to compare planting/harvest stories from different regions.

4. We tried growing them in our garden in Michigan when I was a kid.
I don't think we ever got much of anything from them though. That may well be why I know of no Michigan peanut farms.

6. We grow them in containers (big ones). In NH I used a bushel basket.
It makes harvesting a snap - great way to grow potatoes too. Even in NH we got a pretty hefty haul out of one or two plants. They're also fun!!!
