Democrat Surges in Poll Ahead of N.Y. Special Election
Source: Wall Street Journal

A congressional race that may test voter support for a controversial Republican plan to overhaul Medicare remains tight before Tuesday’s special election, with a new poll suggesting that the Democrat now has a slight edge.

Democrat Kathy Hochul has been campaigning in the western New York district against the House GOP plan to remake Medicare. She had support from 42% of likely voters in a survey released Saturday, compared to 38% for Republican Jane Corwin.

Republicans have long represented the district, so gains by Democrats are being closely watched well beyond the region.

The poll, conducted by the Siena Research Institute, surveyed more than 600 likely voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.

It is nice to see that, at least in New York, are holding Republicans accountable!

3. looking in from afar, one has to wonder how dumb are the people
who will be voting either for Corwin or Davis.
I would like to hope people where I live would be a bit more in touch with reality.

4. I think it's a safe bet to say they don't choose their candidates based on thoughtful deliberations
of policy and philosophical differences. They vote Republican/Tea Party because they hate the Democratic Label that much. It comes from years of programming to salivate/rage when the word "Democrat" is mentioned.

7. Probably had a bad way of expressing it. Not sitting in the middle of the
mess allows for some time and latitude to think.
Plus, my area is not exactly a media hot spot, thank goodness.

9. This is WINNABLE. Please, DONATE and/or CALL for Hochul. You can do it from ANYWHERE.
I have donated to Hochul For Congress online. Even $10 is a big help. You can also make calls from home via DCCC. Just go to the DCCC website. It will be all about GOTV, and Hochul's team has a great plan in place. It just needs to be funded. Any little bit helps. Rove's RePUKE group is spending hundreds of thousands attacking Hochul on the air. If Hochul wins, it will scare the living shit out of every RePUKE in the country.
Please help.

10. You're SO right!
I've given to her campaign three times now, and I plan to do so again tomorrow. It's a matter of CASH folks! That's what this stupid election system has winnowed down to. Most Americans are TOO STOOPID (and/or apathetic) to analyse and ferret out the facts about the supposed truths they get pummeled with. They build their "knowledge" on 30-second sound bites - and those cost money.

13. Well, mass communication does need to happen. Also, $ is needed to support the ground operation.

12. I live in the 26th.
My husband's a registered R and we're both voting for Kathy. I soooooo hope she's able to pull it out. Since we've got 1 registered Dem and one registered Repub we get phone calls and campaign literature from all of them. So far I've received 2 phone calls on Hochul's behalf. One was from her mother, the other from the NY State Teachers Union. Both had live bodies on the phone, willing to talk and answer questions. We've had 2 or 3 robo calls from Jack Davis, but it was his voice on the calls and he paid for them himself.

Then we have the Corwin calls. :( Several calls from the vile Alan West, another from Marco Rubio. Some group claiming to be in favor of women's health, saying Jane will help get rid of the current health care law, so that women's health can be preserved. I had to give those calls a big WTF? The TV ads have been literally unbelievable. Jane Corwin saying that Kathy Hochul is in favor of getting rid of Medicare (another WTF on that one) - another ad showing Hochul and Davis on puppet strings being held by Nancy Pelosi. Davis has never been in office and Hochul is the county clerk. It's a bit of a reach saying either are controlled by Pelosi.

Most of the print ads have featured Corwin and Davis beating each other up. Poor Hochul is an afterthought. She's run a clean campaign and she's a great candidate. I'm hoping the voters have had enough of the sleeze from the Corwin campaign and swing their votes to Kathy. Oh well, a girl can hope.

14. A bit of a reach? Do you mean bold-faced lies?
Prediction: Repukes win, but we claim "victory" since it's close. Kinda like in the WI judge election.

And that the election is not fixed.

21. Support for Democrats in elections before Third Party, always. It is in the rules.
And Hochul actually has a chance to win here. Being in the 26th, I don't want to see any of the vote split off, thank you very much.

17. That's still close enough to steal.
Sorry to have to say it, but I mean it. You want to spot a trend, spot this: no election within the margin of error will go to a Democrat. That is the reality our party faces; that is why our President is already working as hard as he is to carve out a centrist position and a commanding lead.

Wisconsin's recent election showed us that the Republicans no longer care what kind of scrutiny they receive after the fact. We have to catch those SOBs in the act.

Life imprisonment for election theft should also be considered.
