Judicial nominee Goodwin Liu faces filibuster showdown

The judicial wars have returned to the Senate.

After months of relative calm regarding the federal bench, Senate Republicans are poised Thursday to use a filibuster to block the confirmation of law professor Goodwin Liu to an appellate court.

If successful, it would be the first filibuster of a judicial nominee led entirely by Senate Republicans — six years after their leaders tried to change the chamber’s rules to forbid such an action.

In moving to block Liu, Republicans are warning President Obama that his next Supreme Court nominee is likely to face a more difficult path to confirmation than did his first two selections. “If we prevail, it ought to send a signal that the White House ought to send up people who are more mainstream,” Sen. Charles E. Grassley (Iowa), the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday.

5. That's what I say.
However, this late in the evening, I can't recall if you can do that with judicial nominees.

2. Fuck the recess appointment, use the NUCLEAR option that Senate GOP threatened on Alito and Roberts.
I greatly hope the Republican party understands that after their abuse of the filibuster and continuous Judicial holds, should they ever hold the White house and Senate they are going to have an impossible time confirming ANYONE!

4. Down Goes Goodwin Liu. Unreal.
Democrats cross over to get Alito and Roberts cloture. And they won't do it for a Circuit Judge nominee. Unreal.
