Most baby products contain toxic chemicals
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

(05-17) 16:49 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Eighty percent of baby products - from nursing pillows to car seats and strollers - studied by researchers contain chemical flame retardants that are either untested or known to be toxic, according to a report released Wednesday.

The study, published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, focused on flame retardants because the chemicals have been linked to increased risks for thyroid impairment, reproductive problems, endocrine disruption, cancer and other health issues. Some of the chemicals have been banned or voluntarily removed from some products but not others.

"New parents would be horrified to learn some of their baby shower presents contain the same chemical that was removed from baby pajamas in the '70s," said Arlene Blum, founder of the Green Science Policy Institute in Berkeley and an author of the report.

For example, the federal government banned a chemical known as brominated tris from children's pajamas in 1977 after it was found to cause cancer in laboratory animals. A close relative of the chemical, chlorinated tris, was substituted and then voluntarily removed by manufacturers from the pajama products.

Please print and distribute this story to the next local "pro-life" rally, OK? Where's the outrage over the numerous environmental hazards that harm actual living children not just the fetus?

2. And more idiots are going to see that commercial
that insinuates holding your baby is unhealthy. I swear to god, there's a commercial playing on cable that tells mothers holding their babies makes them prone to whooping cough. It's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. It makes me so mad, I can't even watch the ending to see what the hell they're selling.

8. they are saying that
children get whooping cough from adults too. They are telling adults who are around children to get vaccinated. It is not really what you think it is. I know I was asked if I was around children at the doctors so they would know whether or not to give me the tetanus shot that had whooping cough vaccine included.

9. It's a ridiculous scare tactic when information would do just as well.
That's all young mothers need, to be made afraid of holding their kid. It's the stupidest ad possible for the objective.

4. America has been
putting toxic chemicals into consumer products for a long time. You should read the environmental research that documents the damage that is being done to people. That research is kept separate from traditional medical journals. Try Environmental Health Perspectives for a start.

It is possible and probable that China is making it worse, but in the US the chemical levels are voluntary, so they really do not have strict limits they have to adhere to. Some European countries have strict limits, especially for children, so the efforts now are to get rid of those limits. American corporations want it that way.

3. There's no outrage from the "pro-lifers" because child's been born. They won't give a shit. . .
until that child is old or sick and wants to end their life. Then they'll come clamoring out of their dank holes and raise another ruckus against choice.
