Obama aide: G'vt hits debt limit, special measures put in place

The federal government hits the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling today, the Obama administration announced, requiring extraordinary measures that can stave off a default for a few more months.

In a letter to Congress, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told Congress he will halt investments in two big government pension plans Monday.

Geithner has said that various accounting maneuvers can delay a government default on Aug, 2.

"Everything should be on the table except raising taxes, because raising taxes will hurt our economy and hurt our ability to create jobs in our country," said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, appearing on CBS' Face The Nation.

Just like Meredith Viera sitting like an idiot while Donald Trump asserts that the President was born in Kenya, the corporate media never challenges the Republican talking points that Democrats are not serious about debt reduction given that they are agreeable to major cuts while Republicans are the ones refusing to consider tax increases to the rich or oil companies.

Indeed, why is it that no one raises the Clinton years when the economy grew even as Democrats raised taxes, which helped reduced the budget deficit? Instead, Republicans repeat the mantra above with impunity.

Worse, Republicans may have already decided to plunge the nation into default, because they have decided that this is the only way they capture the Presidency, since the American people and the corporate media will never hold them accountable for their lies. Heck, look at the lies about President Obama's place of birth.

2. The problem is that those "news" people are multimillionaires...

and are obtuse when it comes to ideas that would tax their incomes or spread the wealth of the nation amongst the citizens who produce that wealth. At one time there were journalists who came from working class families and had the point of view that the bosses were out to screw the workers (because it was a recognized fact.) That simple idea seems to be beyond multimillionaire news readers or they just don't want to see it.

As Upton Sinclair said, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it."

3. Why doesn't Boner just say it out loud? Just say,

"Fuck all you little people. I'm a lickspittle for the rich, and they and I will have it just how we want it. So shut the fuck up. You annoy me."

I mean, it's obvious he has the controlling hand here. Why not flaunt it?
