Gov. Jerry Brown not giving up on tax hikes to help California budget
Source: Los Angeles Times

Reporting from Sacramento—
Gov. Jerry Brown, facing mounting pressure to walk away from his stalled budget plan, is refusing to yield and will seek to reinvigorate his campaign for a public vote on taxes with the revised spending package he releases Monday.

But there will be a new twist.

Having failed to win enough Republican votes to put the taxes on the ballot in June, the governor is expected to ask lawmakers to impose at least some of the levies first and seek Californians' blessing after the fact, said officials with knowledge of Brown's plan.

The governor faces rough seas in his quest for billions of dollars in additional income, sales and vehicle taxes.

2. I dunno. Californians pay so many taxes as it is. How about taxing corporations
for a change? Why do Californians have to always pay through the nose while corporations get a free ride all the time?

8. "...additional income, sales and vehicle taxes."

"The governor faces rough seas in his quest for billions of dollars in additional income, sales and vehicle taxes."

If these affect the working-class...you bet he does.
How about first eliminating that cash cow for fat cat developers known as RDA?

9. Thank you for this! I didn't know. This really, really upsets me. RDA is yet another scam
perpetrated on Californians disguised as an agency to help our most vulnerable citizens.

Governor Brown needs to stop this crap and focus on taking those billions away from Redevelopment Agencies the so-called fiscally CA CONservatives appear to want to protect, and stop handing out pink slips to our teachers, bleed off our libraries and our schools before raising taxes on the already overtaxed citizens of California.

To not do so is to violate the Democratic platform where we fight for the people, not the corporations.

Apparently, Mayor Villaraigosa forgets which Party he represents because he favors RDA over teachers, schools, and libraries, too. Lawrence O'Donnell had a segment on a secret play to build a new NFL stadium where the Convention Center is - completely with taxpayer dollars. Isn't that what Republicans do? Use much needed tax payer dollars for corporate business ventures? Is Villaraigosa a Democrat or Republican?

Once again, it appears California taxpayers are going to be used as Big Business' private little cash cows, but there's no money for teachers, our schools, our all-important libraries. Los Angeles is BROKE. The streets and freeways are horrid. It's like driving on a rocky dirt road these days! Mayor Villaraigosa should concentrate every dollar on L.A.'s crumbling schools and rundown neighborhoods and underfunded libraries, rather than giving billions to private business.
