I.M.F. Names Replacement as Chief Awaits Arraignment
Source: The New York Times

Hours after its chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual attack of a maid at a Midtown Manhattan hotel, the International Monetary Fund on Sunday named John Lipsky as acting managing director.

Mr. Lipsky, the I.M.F.’s first deputy managing director, is a former U.S. Treasury executive and onetime banker at JP Morgan. William Murray, an I.M.F. spokesman, said that Mr. Lipsky, who has been overseeing the logistics of the bailout of the Greek economy, would meet with members of the I.M.F. board in Washington later in the day, according to Reuters.

“In line with standard I.M.F. procedures, John Lipsky, first deputy managing director, is acting managing director while the M.D. is not in D.C.,” Mr. Murray said in a statement. “Mr. Lipsky will chair the informal Board session today.”

Mr. Strauss-Kahn, 62, was awaiting arraignment on Sunday afternoon in Manhattan. The New York Police Department formally arrested him at 2:15 that morning “on charges of criminal sexual act, attempted rape, and an unlawful imprisonment in connection with a sexual assault on a 32-year-old chambermaid in the luxury suite of a Midtown Manhattan hotel yesterday” about 1 p.m., Deputy Commissioner Paul J. Browne, the department’s chief spokesman, said.

1. The IMF is a consortium of private bankers. How the hell did it get so powerful?
Have you noticed how often the news reports that the IMF is telling countries what to do????

5. The accusation of a sexual assault is strangely timed.
I understand that this man has a reputation as a romeo. But it is rare for a man to have the physical ability to rape someone at the age of 62. How can a chamberaid be forced into a "criminal sexual act"?

This is a very strange story. She is 32. She certainly had the key to the room. Was she injured?

I am usually very sympathetic to women's claims of rape or forced sex. But this story just doesn't sound right to me. There are too many suspicious factors.

A successful seducer usually is a person who enjoys the social interaction associated with sex. Rapists and people who want aggressive, forced sex usually don't seek the social interaction. This is very unusual.

7. remember that accusation against Al Gore a couple years ago?
A woman in Oregon claimed that he had assaulted her in a hotel room, and there were so many holes in the story that the investigation was finally dropped.

Wouldn't be the first time that a woman was sent to "ruin" a man.

6. This is the final blow in the economic coup.
Wow! Unbelievable. Austerity will be imposed on everyone who is not a banker. Have fun, guys.

The rape story is all too convenient. It will take a lot to persuade me that it is true. It just fits too perfectly into a means to permit right-wingers to take complete control of the IMF.
