Trump Says He’s Decided ‘In My Mind’ to Pursue the Presidency
Edited on Sun May-01-11 06:35 PM by brooklynite
Source: Bloomberg

New York real estate developer Donald Trump says he has decided “in my mind” to run for president, yet won’t make an official announcement before the season finale of his reality television show later this month.

“In my mind, I have already decided,” Trump, 64, said in a telephone interview today. “I am going to announce. But I can’t do anything until the show ends.”

Trump said he will focus on “making our country rich and respected,” by creating jobs, boosting the economy and stopping China and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries from taking advantage of the U.S.

“The OPEC nations will be acting much differently, and fuel prices will go down and the economy will become strong again,” Trump said. “They may like me or not like me, but nobody will be ripping us off.”

I'm willing to bet he decided this last night, after getting publicly humiliated...

30. Three dimensional chess indeed :)
Gotta hand it to him if so. Make the populace pick between histrionics and level headedness. It's a nice contrast.

Even if Trump can't win the nomination the amount the field will have to put out to compete with him will leave the Repubs unbelievably broke. The club for growth types can go all out against Trump (closet socialist doncha know...he floated taxing all wealth at 16%) and spend all their corporate donations.

35. And it's also federal elections law
Television stations have to sell advertising time to all candidates at the same price.

The current run of The Apprentice pays Donald Trump $3 million per episode. If Trump declares before the show ends, the Federal Elections Commission will probably declare each episode of The Apprentice to be a campaign commercial--hence NBC would be required to give the president a one-hour campaign commercial for each episode of Trump's show, and to pay the president $3 million for being in them.

They obviously do not want to do this, so the second Trump declares, he is no longer a TV Reality Show Star.

Can someone who knows if this is true or false please chime in?

Edited on Sun May-01-11 07:20 PM by spooky3
He just said he had "decided" and that he would make an "announcement."

He could always "announce" after the show ends that he had "decided" not to run.

The reporter is drawing conclusions that aren't warranted based strictly on what she reported. She may be right about what he's thinking, but that's not what The Donald said.

18. And in his mind he will win
He can join the Emperor of San Francisco Joshua Abraham Norton

Norton, apparently mentally unbalanced, claimed to be the Emperor of the United States. Although he had no political power, and his influence extended only so far as he was humored by those around him, he was treated deferentially in San Francisco, and currency issued in his name was honored in the establishments he frequented.

Though he was considered insane, or at least highly eccentric, the citizens of San Francisco celebrated his regal presence and his proclamations, most famously, his "order" that the United States Congress be dissolved by force and his numerous decrees calling for a bridge and a tunnel to be built across San Francisco Bay

49. Remember Lee Iacocca?
I knew a wall street person who knew Iacocca well. I was a Kid but asked the person I knew about that candidacy. He said that these corporate executives make lousy politicians because they always insist on getting their own way. Politicians especially the President must be willing and able to compromise. Notice how many Presidents have been governors? Not that many have come from the Senate or House directly, Obama is quite an exception. The Presidency demands a rare combination of skill and talent. No Republican in sight has what it takes in my opinion. None will negotiate well or compromise. If any of those repub thug clowns becomes President we are in deep, deep kukai.
