ELECTRONIC VOTING

Touch-screen printouts reconsidered

Florida senators revived the idea of a paper trail for electronic voting, but not for the November election.

TALLAHASSEE - The Senate on Monday left the door wide open to equipping electronic voting machines with paper printers, but stopped short of outright endorsing the equipment.

The reversal in philosophy came from members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who were considering a sweeping election reform bill that included a measure prohibiting manual recounts of votes cast on touch-screen equipment.
(snip)

There is still no pending legislation that would require such receipts or the equipment to produce them, and it's unlikely to be produced this session.

U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Boca Raton, has sued in federal court, demanding that Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and other touch-screen voting counties use paper printers. His lawsuit is emblematic of a growing national mistrust of electronic voting equipment. As voters across the country approach the November presidential election, that unease has fueled a clamor for some sort of receipt.

1. What am I missing here?
sweeping election reform bill that included a measure prohibiting manual recounts of votes cast on touch-screen equipment.

That doesn't make sense to me! How in the world can you manually recount an electronic vote?????

2. I've said it before . . . and I'll say it again . . .
there's no way we're going to have auditable paper trails by the November election . . . particlarly in states that BushCo may need to rob . . . Florida, for instance . . .

3. What a load of horseshit. Diebold should be brought up on charges.
I never thought I'd see the day that I wished international observers would come and monitor our polls.

There is no reason why this company can't provide a paper trail. We're talking 19-fucking-50s technology here. The ONLY possible reason would be that they WANT to cheat. They want, and are damned determined, to rig this election. Bastards.

4. notice the term "RECEIPT".... not "RECORD".... they will give each
person a personal 'receipt', which the courts will say can't be used for a recount, because maybe not all people brought theirs in...

Maine, i believe tried to get the hard copy record add-on, but Diebold talked them out of it.. actually "DOWNGRADED" a sale by MILLIONS !!! and charged 4 or 5 times the cost of the add on.. to discourage them.....whats that say..??

8. It is NOT a receipt.
It is a legally countable ballot. Period.
