BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A bomb attack on a U.S. convoy killed a U.S. soldier on Tuesday and wounded another soldier and a civilian contractor, the U.S. army said.

An army spokesman said the convoy, traveling from Baquba to Najaf, was hit just after midnight by a roadside bomb planted south of Baghdad.

....that is all right now. :(

U.S. soldier killed as U.S. troops head toward Najaf

NAJAF, Iraq (AP) Gunmen attacked a large convoy of U.S. troops heading toward Najaf with gunfire and roadside bombs, killing one soldier and wounding two others and an American civilian contractor, officers in the convoy said Tuesday.

The 80-vehicle convoy was struck late Monday, when a volley of fire erupted north of the city. A roadside bomb hit a truck. The convoy accelerated through the ambush and continued on its way toward Najaf, 100 miles south of Baghdad.

5. Ohdearlord
They're sending a "large convoy" of troops to Najaf!?!?!? This is what I get for actually doing things I'm supposed to be doing and getting sleep. I totally missed this.

Just when I think it's correct to say this is gonna be bad, it gets even worse.

3. Another contractor involved, as well.
Makes you wonder how many contractors are working in Iraq, doesn't it?

Very sad.

13. I heard they make
between 100 and 200 grand a year. I guess some GI making 12 grand doesn't really care too much about the mercenaries.

14. NPR just had a KBR truck driver on...
He said he was making $80,000/year tax free. But he came home when his truck was hit recently. Lucky to be alive the way he described it. He did it for the money, as are a lot of Americans who saw this as quick easy cash back when the fighting was not widespread.

12. 20,000 and increasing
With cost plus contracts --- and a lot of Angry Gold Star mothers questioning why their daughters and sons are dying---- look for more foreign civilians to do the REMF tasks.

until chimpass* is re-selected and they can comfortably install a draft. At least that is their plan which I hope NEVER happens...

16. Man I've lost touch
I just looked at Lunaville they say681 dead, but I believe that number to be so much higher. If they carry out these attacks the casualties will soar, and there's gonna be such a backlash.
