US says Opec output cuts most unwelcome
"We're very concerned and the actions by Opec in reducing its quota are most unwelcome," Snow said when asked about spiraling gasoline prices. "We've let Opec know that we don't think well of these actions. The situation is a serious one." Snow said he hoped concern over energy price rises might make Congress speed up work on the Bush administration's proposals for a new energy policy...

The US Energy Department is forecasting record high summer gasoline prices, some 20 cents above last year on average, due to strong consumer demand and tight gasoline supplies caused by lower Opec output quotas.

Rising energy prices and Opec's decision to cut oil output have grown into a big issue in the US presidential campaign...

1. A normal administration............
would be dipping into the Stategic Oil Reserve to help Americans at a time like this.
A "normal" administration would. What we have here is a subnormal administration.

just "jaw-boning" to make things look like something is being done?

and the bush*t about the energy bill? Come on - even if Congress passes the bill today it will be a least couple YEARS (if not longer) before any fuel of significance hits the market... bush* inc. is trying to spin this as a quick fix

what we need is an energy policy that focuses on improving and developing alternative energy sources, fuel efficiency and conservation

as long as we continue to use/import oil as a primary fuel source we will be at the mercy of some other country or corporation which can and will dictate market prices and supplies

there are no quick fixes for this problem
