Falluja Fighters Demand U.S. Pullout Before Cease-fire

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi rebels fighting U.S. forces in the Sunni Muslim city of Falluja will agree to hold cease-fire talks if Marines withdraw from the city, an Iraqi negotiating team said on Saturday.

"They want to see U.S. forces pull out to something like five km (three miles) outside the city. No cease-fire can take place while the U.S. forces keep pounding Falluja," Qahtan al-Rubaie, a spokesman for the Iraqi Islamic Party, told Reuters.

2. Iraqis shouldn't trust the U.S....even if they negotiate a cease fire
The US army will break the cease fire and attack them by surprise. The military top brass has promised to eliminate the Al-Sadr army and they will if given a chance. This is just a diversionary tactic the US is using, I'm afraid.

4. It seems to me this is at least partly psychological
Neither side would want to cede ground for a ceasefire - it must be demoralizing to have to recapture the same ground that you have fought over and had comrades killed or wounded in. For the U.S. forces to even consider this, they must be low on supplies and ammunition.

5. Bet they retreat and then say they didn't
and call it something else.

How many times are they going to have to "take" Falluja and "Win"
the war in Iraq?

I have yet to be mistaken when it comes to not believing ANYTHING that this administration casts out as facts or the "truth".

Iraq Militants Threaten to Kill American

Saturday April 10, 2004 8:16 PM

BAGHDAD (AP) - Militants on Saturday threatened to kill and mutilate Thomas Hamill, an American civilian captured during the ambush of a convoy west of Baghdad.

In a videotape given to the Al-Jazeera television network, Hamill was shown in front of an Iraqi flag. A spokesman off camera demanded that U.S. troops end their siege of the city of Fallujah, where four American civilians were killed and mutilated last week.

``Our only demand is to remove the siege from the city of mosques,'' a spokesman said in a tape given to the Al-Jazeera television network. ``If you don't respond within 12 hours ... he will be treated worse than those who were killed and burned in Fallujah.''

Hamill was captured by gunmen who rocketed a fuel convoy on the road between Baghdad and Fallujah on Friday. He identified himself to a reporter for Australian television seconds before being whisked away in a car by gunmen.

10. Support for al-Sadr seen widening
Edited on Sun Apr-11-04 11:47 AM by dArKeR
AP , BAGHDAD, IRAQ
Sunday, Apr 11, 2004,Page 7

At least 20,000 worshippers, about twice the usual number, gathered for weekly prayers at a mosque run by radical Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, indicating that he may be winning sympathy from more Shiites as his militia challenges US authority in Baghdad as well as across central and southern Iraq.

Aided by hundreds of young seminary students, the 30-year-old cleric and his supporters have in recent days boasted of widening support after mass protests and fighting this week with US and other coalition troops.

"Our movement is stronger today than it was a week ago," said Ibrahim al-Janabi, a senior al-Sadr aide. "But most important of all is that God is on our side," he said Friday after prayers in Sadr City, the movement's Baghdad stronghold.
