Anti-Gadhafi and pro-democracy demonstrators rallied in city centres across Western Canada over the weekend, following news that a coalition air campaign led by the U.S. would enforce a no-fly zone over Libya.
In Vancouver, dozens of Libyans gathered at Library Square on Saturday to denounce Col. Moammar Gadhafi, who has ruled Libya since 1969. It's something they've done since the uprisings in Libya began in February, but now they have fresh hope Gadhafi will be defeated.
The protesters waved flags and shouted: "Our freedom's very near! Our freedom's very near!"
Ali Kubti, feared for his family in Benghazi, where Gadhafi's forces had been advancing.
