Bush Shifting Away From Brevity
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 9:31 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Looks like that yawning boy in Florida may have been on to something when he struggled to stay awake during a recent speech by President Bush. Bush's rhetoric is best known for the occasional syntax mangle and terse, my-way-or-the-highway one-liners. Lately, the president has tended toward the super-lengthy in his remarks, particularly when the subject is jobs and the economy.

Consider the event Tuesday on job readiness ideas that ran for a full hour in El Dorado, Ark. Even though six others participated, Bush did the vast majority of the talking.

There are several other examples where Bush alone accounted for all the verbiage: a 54-minute speech in Charlotte, N.C., on Monday on job training, 51 minutes in Wisconsin late last month on the economic help from his tax cuts, and 45 minutes on the same topic in Cleveland on March 10.

Bush's standard speech to purely political audiences also has swelled, from a reliable 24 minutes last year to routinely well over 30.

3. And why less brevity?
More words=more baffle 'em with bullshit.

More words and the fake Tejas accent=Really drop the baffle 'em with bullshit hammer.

6. Reminds me of the joke about the unedible food in a restaurant.
And a customer complains about how bad it is... Then he concludes "and the portions are so small.."
Increasing the length will not increase the quality.

7. HUGE mistake-they have lived and died with the KISS method
Keep It Simple Stupid

Since the Reagan years they have lived and died politically with shrinking their message down to bumper sticker sized phrases

Tear down this wall

Read my Lips

I will lower your taxes
Uniter not a divider
WMD/Links to terrorist/threat

Not only is W not a very good speaker ("Oh everyone knows he is a very polished speaker"-post MTP interview) but the more W speaks the more the chance of really saying something clumsy or stupid AND 'Murkans will tune out.

14. LOL Bush might be trying to emulate Clinton
oral-wise, but speiling bushwah and the famous Bush grimace fest just won't do the job.

13. Bush doesn't even know what "brevity" means. Length isn't everything!
Size only matters when there is substance behind it.

15. Fantastic..................
the longer he talks, the better chance for people to see what a complete idiot he is. Up to now he's given people one liners and tough guy stuff. He's now trying to explain what's going on in his hamster wheel driven brain, and people will be exposed to the vapid, out of control mechanizations of his mind.
The more he talks, the better of we are. Keep it up Dumbya!

17. Ouch! That's Associated Press or an editorial?
I love Bush getting bashed and I have seen similar stuff bashing our folks, but that first paragraph really hurts Dimson!

Btw, increasing the length of his speeches is completely counterproductive. It will make Junior more tired, people will be exposed to his idiocy for too long, and even some of the best speakers have a tough time keeping a crowd enthused for an hour.

These guys seem to be making all the wrong moves, and while I love it for the election, I really see it as very deadly for our troops who have no real choice in where they are.

The longer he talks, the fewer questions that can be asked. Condi had that tactic down pat on Thursday. We'll see it more and more.

technique of filibustering your way through life is not going to get this misadminstration elected. they will be the one-term unelected frauds that stain our country's great history. from the greatest economic expansion in history to the greatest blunders and theft of our national treasury...
