Anonymous hackers release Bank of America emails
Source: The Guardian UK

The hacker group Anonymous has released a cache of emails obtained from someone said to be a former Bank of America employee.

The group alleges that the emails, dating from November 2010, detail improper lending practices at the bank, an allegation the bank denies. The leak comes as consumer groups have accused major US lenders of foreclosing on many homes without having proper documentation in place.

The emails detail correspondence between employees of Balboa Insurance, a Bank of America insurance unit, in which they appear to be discussing the removal of details from documents in loan files.

The bank acquired Balboa when it bought Countrywide Financial in 2008. Countrywide was the US's largest seller of sub-prime home loans. Last month Bank of America announced plans to sell Balboa.

1. No one will be punished. They are
quite safe. We have no one that will go after them.

5. Will US corporate media give this some coverage?
or take their usual blow-dry, kiss-ass corporate media (R) approach...?

6. I'm not convinced there is really anything to this. Check this article.
http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/2011/03/15/anonymous-perplexing-leak-of-bank-of-america-documents/

If this article is correct, it sounds more like a computer error that the company was correcting than some sort of massive fraud. I'm a programmer at an insurance company and it's not all that uncommon that some change made to our rating or something causes an error where we need to delete stuff and send out corrections.

Don't get me wrong. I'm no fan of the banksters that have been handing themselves bonuses on the taxpayer dime while picking the pockets of the little guys. But if all this was was a clerical/computer error that they were purging, it's hardly criminal.

This whole things just seems fishy to me. Wikileaks has been talking this up since December and I have yet to see anything very damning myself.

7. Wallstreet Journal
is a Murdoch rag which only real use is following where corporate interests are, not real objective journalism. Murdoch rags lookout for the corporate bottomline and will make excuses for them.

8. Bullshit
I've worked for Nationwide, Wausau, Liberty Mutual, Allmerica Financial and Colonial (I've also done financial programming for Ames), nothing just gets deleted. There is always a record kept of what went wrong and what was done to fix it... especially with anything regarding financials. All financial records are kept for a minimum of seven years.
