US offers truce to Falluja fighters
.
.
.

A US military commander in Iraq says his forces are ready to observe a ceasefire in Falluja if the Sunni militants holding the city respond.

Shortly after Brig-Gen Mark Kimmitt spoke, a team from the US-appointed Iraqi Governing Council entered the city for talks with local leaders.

The IGC is said to be furious about not being consulted over the Falluja offensive and other US-led operations against Shia and Sunni militants.

/snip/

Hundreds of civilians are reported to have been killed in Falluja, and women and children are trying to leave the city after six days of violence.

1. Very helpful. Second ceasefire attempt.
This is really hard to witness.

From the article, a useful map:

3. Thanks for the map, and yeah, do you really think the "insurgents"
.
.
.

are going to trust another "ceasefire" from their "liberators"?

BOTH sides are going to lie.

Fallujah was their undoing, even if they level the place, they'll just create more enemies in the rest of the country and the world.

They blew it, and it's just a matter of how many more Iraqi's they'll kill before they have to leave.

Trouble is, the US is so stubborn, they will never admit they made a mistake, so they will stay and many will die.

(sigh)

4. Why should they agree? Our last "cease fire" lasted only 3 hours...
...and just gave us time to re-deploy, gain reconnaissance, then bring in the Gun Ships.

5. Some have suggested Bremer is just taunting them
He ordered the cease-fire so they could "tend to their dead." Some have seen this as a taunt--and it certainly is not beneath them to do something so subhuman.
