A push for late-term restrictions
Source: Omaha World Herald-AP

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Anti-abortion activists are pressing Iowa lawmakers to approve new restrictions on late-term terminations during this year’s session, in a debate that has been elevated by plans to open a new abortion clinic in the state.

The measure, which is in a House committee, would ban most abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy unless a doctor declared a medical emergency. That stalled in one committee because some anti-abortion activists want a measure that would virtually end all abortions in the state.

During a Statehouse news conference on Wednesday, Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition lobbyist Norman Pawlewski said he’s been trying to convince the other activists to accept the late-term restrictions but hasn’t had any success. He said he’s worried that the division among the ranks could mean nothing will happen.

“There’s no mystery,” said Pawlewski. “There are some legislators who have gotten in the way.”

1. Fight fire with fire.
Let's go on the offensive with ads showing the results of coat hanger abortions. Tombstones of teenage girls too afraid to tell anyone they were pregnant. That the r's would rather your daughter die after some back alley abortion. We've got to stop trying to fight emotions with reason and start fighting fire with fire.

7. I do remember.
I made my own symbol for an abortion march in DC (in 1986 I think). I made a large wooden cross and nailed an uncoiled wire hanger to it.

It must have had its desired effect: Randall Terry was screaming at us via megaphone until he saw what I was carrying. I left him speechless.

5. It's absolutely true that they value no female life -- not your daughter's or anyone else's ....!!

And the number of abortions never changes -- only difference is, whether they can

be obtained legally or not!!

Let's also keep in mind, in the end, these people are after birth control, as well --

Their main thing is to prove that women are children who have no idea what they're doing --

but they do!!

6. I was one of those girls...
...back when abortions were illegal, and I was a scared pregnant teenager alone in a big city, I feebly attempted to self-abort with a pair of scissors. Lucky for me, I didn't get very far and gave up rather quickly before any damage was done. But consider this: I was 100% ignorant of the danger to myself of what I was doing. I had NO IDEA that if I had cut myself internally, I could have bled to death, or could have died from an infection. That is what ignorance results in, and making abortion illegal again -- or just unavailable, as has already happened in many places in the country -- will ensure that more young women endanger or kill themselves with desperate measures. Women have always had abortions, and they always will. Deal with it.

SHAME on the people who are trying to bring back back-alley abortions. For the women among them, I hate to say it but I almost hope it happens to you -- not to your loved ones, they don't deserve it, but to YOU PERSONALLY. May you have an ectopic pregnancy and have NOWHERE TO TURN to have it terminated. Then let's talk about how wonderful and moral you are.

No I really don't wish that on anyone. Sorry, just lost control there for a minute.

Oh, and SHAME on the young women who don't think this is worth fighting for, and who think you can compromise on this issue. This is NOT about being pro-abortion. This is about the human rights of women.

One more SHAME: SHAME on the Catholic Church and the other hard-line religious rat bastards who just want to control women and who make a pretense of being morally grounded on this issue. A hearty FUCK YOU to all of you.

As an aside: in those countries where women become empowered to control their own fertility, the population numbers come under control and the economic situation tends to improve overall. Imagine that.

9. Before Roe vs Wade, any fertilized egg was more highly valued than a female life -- !!
Very common before Roe vs Wade --

Many did lose their lives in illegal abortions --

and many were saved by being taken to hospitals before they bled to death --

One more SHAME: SHAME on the Catholic Church and the other hard-line religious rat bastards who just want to control women and who make a pretense of being morally grounded on this issue. A hearty FUCK YOU to all of you.

And, I'm sure we all recognize the moral superiority and infallibility of the Catholic Church --

a male-supremacist religion which still does not recognize the full personhood of females as it

recognizes the full personhood of males!

Was it simply coincidence that W came through with funding for their "faith-based" religious

organizations just when they most desperately needed money for their pedophile priest lawsuits?

Up till then they had been having to sell off church property which was creating quite some

upheaval among Catholics!

As an aside: in those countries where women become empowered to control their own fertility, the population numbers come under control and the economic situation tends to improve overall. Imagine that.

Also, just as many Catholic women have just as many abortions as any other women!

And in Ireland they have to travel to the UK to get an abortion -- and yet they do it!!

Hispanic Catholics are very liberal and support birth control and abortion -- simple choice by

53%! Even higher percentages for abortions based on incest, health risks, etal.

:)

4. Should be interesting to hear their arguments on why a 12 year old victim of incest ...
can't have an abortion?

Too young to make up her own mind, but not too young to be a mother!?

How many families will wake up now as their sisters, wives, daughters, daughters-in-law --

nieces, friends have their lives threatened by dead fetuses inside their bodies -- or

threatened by having their wombs ripped apart by delivering a fetus with an immense head --

or maybe they'll force them to have Cesareans -- ?

This isn't about medicine, it's about trying to regain control over women and reproduction!!

8. They will fight tooth and nail
To have a woman bring a baby to full term, yet they don't give a rip about the baby after it's born. That part angers me to no end.
