US urges Egypt to prosecute in religious clashes
Source: Asharq Alawsat

The United States is calling on the military authorities running Egypt to prosecute those behind sectarian clashes that killed at least 13 people on Wednesday.

"We have urged the Egyptian transitional government to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators of that violence to justice," Mark Toner, a State Department spokesman, said when asked whether Washington had raised the issue with Cairo.

Toner told reporters that US officials were concerned about attacks on Coptic Christians and "obviously condemn the violence."

That's not what I meant. Funny as it may seem, I meant exactly what I typed.

4. Im with you on
Part of that. We should stay out. I am wholeheartedly behind the U.S. NOT getting involved in Egypt in any way. However, I feel I must point out that the headline appears accurate once you read the article, particularly the quote from the American official. Now, saying that; I cannot vouch for this source nor the story's veracity.

7. I'm not arguing that fact. But any time there's a call for increased US intervention I get nervous.

8. US intervention or no
SOMEBODY needs to help the Copts. They certainly can't withstand an all out uprising against them and they don't exactly have many friendlies in that neighborhood.

9. Egypt replies:
We agree that killing and attacking people for their religious beliefs is a crime and welcome your input on this issue.
We would also ask you at this time to investigate your Rep. King for his offensive attacks and hearings on Muslims just for their religion. Again we thank you for your concern on how religious people are treated in countries around the world.

10. Not a good comparison
Deadly street fighting is far more serious than King's hearings, which will go nowhere fast.

13. I agree there is a difference between killing and hearings
There are Muslims in this country that do live in fear from people that think of themselves as 'christians' and these hearings reinforces their belief that Muslims are at the center of the terrorist threat. It is a fine line this country is walking between the hate that is here and taking up arms to act on that hate.
I feel politicians feed a lot of the hate in this country.

11. Why does the U.S. think they have to micro-manage every Middle Eastern country?
When we get our affairs in order then we can tell other countries how to do it.
