NJ Gov. Christie: 'I love collective bargaining'
Source: Omaha World Herald-AP

By BETH DeFALCO

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie, long at odds with unions over his budget-cutting ways, said that he's ready to start negotiating with state worker unions - and that he "loves" collective bargaining.

Christie said at a town hall meeting in Hillsborough that New Jersey is very different from Wisconsin, where a debate rages over whether that state's Republican governor is trying to break unions by getting rid of collective bargaining. Christie said he has never suggested that collective bargaining rights be taken away.

Just the opposite, said Christie, a darling of the Republican Party.

"In fact, I love collective bargaining," Christie told the crowd Wednesday, packed into a room in the municipal building. "I've said let's get rid of civil service and let everything be collectively bargained, as long as collective bargaining is fair, tough, adversarial and there's someone in that room representing you."

3. wtf? this guy is angling for the presidential nod.
he'll say anything...
yes he "loves" collective bargaining the way a cat "loves" the play with a mouse.

He's got all the cards so he loves it.

I hope the NJ workers will be as strong as the WI workers.

Let's see.. is the nod going to go to Newt Gingrich or Christie?-
oops sorry - some of you may be eating breakfast while reading...

8. NJ is in the northeast and unions are pretty strong here still.
However, Christie is a lying ass. Don't believe a word he says.

12. I've always wondered what people think the alternative to CB is?
Every single civil servant negotiating his or her own pay? Can you imagine the potential for abuse? Let alone the inefficiency and chaos...

14. I don't know if it's going on in NJ, but be prepared...........
for the next "adjustment" in the fight against unions by the Republican Party. It will go something like, "We don't mind unions. We LIKE unions. We like collective bargaining. But you can't have the right to strike! No, no. A strike is too disruptive."

Just watch. Of course a strike is the ONLY leverage that a union has in the collective bargaining process.

IOW, if we can't bust unions head on, we'll do it back door by taking away the only recourse unions have IN collective bargaining.
