Milwaukee Journal SentinelMarch 2, 2011 9:26 a.m. | Madison -- Amid the crush of news Tuesday on Gov. Scott Walker's two-year budget bill, there were a few signs of progress on the ongoing stalemate over the governor's bill on unions.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) drove to Kenosha Monday to meet with two Senate Democrats who fled to Illinois last month to block action on Walker's separate budget repair proposal. That bill has sparked massive protests for seeking to repeal nearly all bargaining rights for public employee unions.
In a telephone interview Tuesday, Sen. Bob Jauch (D-Poplar) identified Sen. Tim Cullen of Janesville as one of the two Democrats but declined to name the other one. Cullen could not be reached immediately for comment.
But Jauch said that those Democrats were attempting to put forward undisclosed proposals that could help break a stalemate.
“There was an effort to communicate some ideas to the administration,” Jauch said.
