Thousands expected for noon rally at Capitol
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Organizers say they expect thousands of people to turn out at the Capitol for a noon rally Saturday to protest Gov. Scott Walker's budget-repair bill.

The rally, which will be held on the State St. side of the Capitol grounds, will begin with several musical performances, including one by Peter Yarrow, who found fame as member of the 1960s folk band Peter, Paul and Mary.

Starting at 3 p.m., a number of Wisconsin labor leaders, school officials and celebrities will speak out against Walker's bill, which would curb collective-bargaining rights for public employees and require state workers to pay more of their pension and health care costs.

Among the scheduled speakers are Wisconsin actor Bradley Whitford and Jeff Skiles, the co-pilot on the U.S. Airways jetliner that crash-landed in New York's Hudson River after its engines were disabled.

1. Wish I could be there,
but our family will be represented by our 2 daughters, daughter-in-law, and 4 year-old granddaughter.

5. got this email from him (Progressives United):
I'm not sure if I can paste the entire letter, but here goes:

Governor Walker claims that his controversial proposal is simply about the budget. But it's not: it's a political bait-and-switch designed to destroy the fundamental rights of Wisconsin's workers.

And in the last two weeks, it's become clear that Governor Walker isn't representing our state. Instead, he's pushing a national corporate agenda, pushed by interests like the Koch brothers - the billionaire captains of industry who just recently opened a lobbying office across the street from the Capitol in Madison.

The Kochs not only spent tens of thousands of dollars supporting Walker's campaign, but they also funneled millions of dollars through front groups to fund attack ads. And now, just as the people of Wisconsin are working together to stand up to them, the Kochs and other front groups are trying to simply buy the result they want, showering the state with pro-Walker, anti-Obama worker TV ads.

Enough is enough. It's time we unite as progressives and stand up to the corporate interests invading Wisconsin. Members of Progressives United are calling on Governor Walker to take a step back and end his attempt to strip the rights of Wisconsin's workers. Click here to join us.

During Governor Walker's press conference yesterday, he made a big show of talking about our tradition of civil debate in Wisconsin.

But he forgets a crucial Midwestern value: being straightforward. By dishonestly threatening the jobs of Wisconsin's workers, Governor Walker is assaulting Wisconsin's long tradition of unity.

Wisconsin workers have been willing to come to the table and compromise in the spirit of shared sacrifice, agreeing to reductions in pay and benefits to achieve the goals of the budget. But where is Governor Walker? He refuses to step up.

Join members of Progressives United and me in calling on Governor Walker to get back to the real issue facing Wisconsin: the budget.

As a former state senator and U.S. senator from Wisconsin -- but more importantly, as a Wisconsin citizen -- I call on Governor Walker to drop his heavy-handed political agenda and focus on getting Wisconsin back to work.

Thank you for joining me,

Russ Feingold

6. I'm confused: I thought only lazy, greedy people...
... were protesting the threat of their free money being taken away??? Wow, who knew there were so many lazy pilots and first responders...

Wait, what?! Rush was pulling my leg?

Well, never mind then.

8. We were over there again to day to lend our voices. I also
brought a full-size Iowa flag to show the Iowa "regiments" were at their side as they were in the past. Also got some photos of the famed Ian's Pizza place.
