2. Interesting....I wonder....
whether the bushistas are taking the opportunity to "throw in" the
other KIAs that had been "under reported" over these past few months?

4. I actually think the number is at least double...
This administration has NO credibility.

And if they were willing to threaten the job of that Medicare official if he revealed the true cost of the Medicare Bill, they would fudge the numbers of a much, much, much more critical number --- the deaths of Americans fighting in an unjust war for fear of the public rising in outrage to bring this thing to an end.

6. I respectfully disagree
There are too many internet sites which list the names and hometowns of the war dead. Someone would notice if names were missing. Thus far, I haven't hear of any missing from the list.

Now I don't doubt that the Pentagon would withhold information about a large amount of deaths...then trickle the info out over a few days so it doesn't cause a stir. But within a week or two, we definitely know who all has been killed.

11. What About Those "Green Card" Soldiers?
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, because frankly I don't know. But what about those many, many enlistees who are from places like El Salvador, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Mexico, etc. where they don't have internet or even access to our newspapers? Is there a breakdown number for those deaths of American citizens and those of non-citizens serving in our uniform? Anyone see such statistics? I wouldn't put it past the Pentagon to only release the names of US citizens who die in uniform. I have read that there are many foreigners serving under our flag right now, hoping to acquire permanent residence and then citizenship by enlisting. For those familiar with the internet sites that you mention, have they noticed any home towns in foreign countries listed for some of the dead?

12. A very good point.....
And I have no doubt that the military would hesitate less to put a non-citizen soldier in danger before a US born soldier.

That being said, I still think that the non-citizens serve right alongside citizen soldiers. They have bonded and become friends. If one of them is killed, the citizen soldiers will write or email home with an account of the incident and people at home will notice that the names are missing. This type of information can't be hidden in an Internet world.

So, again, I think the fatality counts that include names and hometowns are accurate within a very, very small margin of error.

The administration takes a political hit for every soldier that dies, but I think they are wise enough to realize that a cover up of non-citizen soldier deaths would be a HUGE scandal. After all, we even heard about the deaths of contractor (mercenary) soldiers.

26. Mercenary deaths were reported only because they were mutilated..
who knows how many of the private army soldiers have been killed to date?

I've seen reports that contend alot of these mercenaries are former US client state militias such as Chilean military working for "private contractors" along with US citizens.

This is the most secretive administration in our history. I don't trust a thing they say.

If they told me the sky is blue, I would ask a meteorologist first.

And all the while, the Fake President and his pansy-ass supporters (all cheerleader, no balls), sit back here in the states eating their cheetos and drinking their budweiser while children are killed, maimed and orphaned, women and men slaughtered and young, poverty-drafted americans are sent to their deaths or condemned to a life of misery.

I hate these Freeper, republican shitballs. Fuck Free Republic, Fuck Hannity, Fuch Coulter (err, maybe not) and the rest of them.

15. Until recently, America's "peace dividend" ...
... could be seen milling around outside high schools after the bell rang at 4. It wasn't about money. It was about bright, healthy young people with promising futures ahead of them -- a generation unscarred by war or conflict. That was something Bill Clinton understood, and George Walker Bush probably never will.

Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 03:30 PM by Valkyrie55
It was at 48 when I first checked but now they have dropped it back down to 41. Anybody know what's going on?

Edit: Now 2 minutes later they moved it back up to 47. Who knows maybe it was a typo the first time.
