House votes down bill to ax military sponsorship of NASCAR
Source: Hampton Roads

The House voted 281-148 today against Minnesota Congresswoman Betty McCollum's amendment that would have banned military sponsorship of NASCAR teams.

Most Democrats backed McCollum's amendment, while Republicans overwhelmingly voted against it. The measure failed in a recorded vote just before 2 p.m. after failing Thursday night by voice vote. McCollum called for a recorded vote.

The National Guard sponsors Dale Earnhardt Jr., the U.S. Army sponsors Ryan Newman and the U.S. Air Force sponsors AJ Allmendinger.

The Army pays $7.4 million to sponsor Newman's car. The Air Force pays under $2 million, including activation, to sponsor Allmendinger. The National Guard decreased its sponsorship fees 35 percent from last year when it paid $20.1 million in sponsorship fees on the No. 88 team last year and $12.7 million sponsoring the No. 24 team at Hendrick Motorsports -- a total of nearly $32.8 million in sponsorship).

Do NASCAR fans join the military? I'd guess they do... "If Dale Jr. says I should fight, I'll fight!"

7. I'm fine with it if they would send me my damn pit pass
that included comped meal, drinks, and room - everything a VIP sponsor would expect.

11. Damn straight -- priorities!!! Fed funds for NASCAR but not for Planned Parenthood.
I'm mean, really, who needs affordable health care for struggling women and their families, so long as NASCAR keeps its federally-funded military sponsorship. Nice to see AmeriKKKans have their priorities straight.

:sarcasm:

do we the American taxpayer ever get a return on these teams and a share of the winnings?

15. $ million is chicken shit money. You know that, right?
According to http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/politics/us-foreign-aid.htm, we spent $4 billion on military aid to Egypt and Israel last year--$1.3 billion to Egypt, the rest to Israel.

According to http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/11/business/media/11adco.html, the five-year US Army advertising budget is over a billion, which includes such wonders as spending many millions to develop a first-person shooter video game that is renowned for its quality and accuracy.

Given that, the Army is getting the best deal of all--Ryan Newman has actually won a race with the Army's logo on his car. Little E ain't won a race in a few years, and he rolls off 43rd on Sunday because he can't keep the fucking car out of the wall.

19. It makes sense...
The US Gov't sponsors the action of going round-and-round in circles all day, making a lot of noise, and accomplishing absolutely nothing.

They do that all day too!
