Forde convicted in killing of Arivaca man, daughter

A Pima County jury convicted Shawna Forde today of two counts of first-degree murder in the May 30, 2009 deaths of Arivaca residents Raul Junior Flores and his 9-year-old daughter, Brisenia.

The jury also convicted Forde of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of Flores' wife, Gina Gonzalez, as well as related aggravated assault and robbery counts.

Gonzlez started crying as soon as the first guilty verdict, the killing of her daughter, was read just before noon in a packed courtroom at Pima County Superior Court.

The jury deliberated for seven hours over two days. Jurors will now be asked if the death penalty ought to be considered.

1. Seems like a fast verdict
Or maybe a quick trial.

Good though - justice is done!

behind bars.

How callous to be a, if the, part of death of a 9 yo? I am sickened that it even came to this...it should never have happened in the first place...hope Raul and Brisenia RIP and Gina can find closure...although I think for Gina; that is along way off...:(

3. Justice takes her off the streets.
Unfortunately, nothing can bring back her victims. Keep her in jail and let her die there.

4. Can she be deported?
I'm thinking some craphole of a country that will incarcerate her for the rest of her miserable life for a pittance. On the other hand, if she's locked up in Arizona, Ms. Forde is likely to come in sustained and enforced contact with any number of folks who so obviously repulse her (to the point of committing murder) for many years to come.

7. My thoughts exactly.
I'm not a DP proponent but neither do I like the idea of supporting prisoners in a lifestyle that in some ways is more comfortable than the lives of the poor in this country.

9. Arizona vigilante guilty of murdering Latino man, daughter
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- An Arizona jury on Monday convicted anti-illegal immigration activist Shawna Forde of murder in the killing of a Latino man and his 9-year-old daughter during a 2009 vigilante raid she led on their home.

The Pima County jury convicted Forde on eight counts, including two counts of murder for the shooting deaths of Raul Flores and his daughter, Brisenia, and the attempted murder of the child's mother, Gina Gonzales, at the family's rural Arivaca home on May 30, 2009.

The child and her father were American-born U.S. citizens.

The jury also convicted Forde on two counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of burglary, armed robbery and aggravated robbery.

15. I'm also against the Death Penalty ....
Though it would be a sort of poetic justice ....

How does an adult human being kill a 9 year old girl ? .... How does a 'righteous' person kill a child ? ...

Once you cross that line, you have become an evil being ... Worthy of a lifetime of incarceration and hard toil ...

18. Shawna Forde, Anti-Immigration Vigilante Convicted Of Killing 9 Year-Old Girl And Her Father In AZ
Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- An Arizona anti-illegal immigration activist was convicted on Monday of killing two Latinos during a 2009 raid: nine-year-old Brisenia Flores and her father, Raul Flores. The killer, Shawna Forde, is a member of the Minutemen, which patrols the southern border vigilante-style to detect illegal entry into the country.
Although the shootings were never classified as a hate crime, Latino groups argue the murders reflect growing anti-immigrant sentiment within the United States. The details are chilling: Forde and two others entered the Flores home, allegedly looking for a million-dollar drug stash that never materialized, and shot both of Brisenia Flores' parents before turning the gun on the child.
As her mother played dead, Brisenia Flores said, "Please don't shoot me," before being shot twice in the head.

A jury convicted Forde of planning and executing the raid that led to the deaths of Raul and Brisenia Flores, and of the attempted murder of Gina Gonzales, the child's mother (she survived the attack). Forde was also convicted on two counts of aggravated assault and counts of burglary, armed robbery and aggravated robbery.

19. I sent a nasty email to HuffPO and some others for not carrying this...
nor reporting on the verdict when it came out today.... I wonder if others did as well... I'd like to think it made a difference with HuffPo, at least.

It is pretty bad when the blog of record for what should be an important MSM story, was Crooks & Liars, who reported dutifully on this all the way through since the arrest in 2009.

Sigh... I wonder if any television media will cover it.

27. I sincerely hope this hag gets the death penalty.
On a related note, sometimes I really regret that we have the "no cruel and unusual punishment" clause in the Constitution. Lethal injection may be painless (or at least low on pain), but that makes it less intimidating to sub-human bigots like Forde, who haven't advanced beyond the tribalistic instincts of our ape-man ancestors. In order to keep vermin like Forde from killing more innocents, the punishment for such crimes must be utterly terrifying. Unfortunately, the fear of an agonizing death is the only way to repress such primitive behavior in adults over the age of...mm, I'll be generous and say 30, but I think the cut-off point's probably lower.

On the other hand, given the level of right-wing lunacy in this country, I'd hesitate to make an exception to the "no cruel and unusual punishment" clause, even if the exception was strictly stated to apply only to hate crimes that warranted the death penalty. That's not the sort of precedent I'd care to set anytime soon.
