U.S. offers C. America 200 mln dollars for fight against drug trafficking
14:48, February 10, 2011

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State William Brownfield on Wednesday offered 200 million U.S. dollars to Central American countries for the fight against drug trafficking.

Brownfield told reporters that the money will be for the seven countries of Central America -- Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

On Wednesday he met with Honduran Security Minister Oscar Alvarez and also went to the Amarateca Valley to visit the Eagle Nest facilities where U.S. staff train Honduran police officers.

Brownfield will stay in Honduras till Thursday to discuss cooperation efforts aimed to improve the safety of the people, the combat against organized crime and the strengthening of the state of law.

1. LOL
It is not a state of law with two tier justice or targeted justice for smear.

Until the beer and travel correction occurs, there will not be a move to more justice, only more problems to try and correct injustice, and to correct the lack of compassion.

2. Lets cut money from social programs which help the poor
And instead give that money to central American countries to fight "THE DRUG WAR."

Makes perfect sense to me.

5. $200 Million... could have created a few jobs with that money...
or given the Seniors a cost of living raise.

I'm sure all that drug money will go to good use in Central America. (With the DEA and CIA in charge)

I wonder what Paul Ryan will say about cutting this money? (crickets)......

7. This "war on drugs" is adding up

200 million for "Plan Central America."

400 million for the Merida Inicitive (aka "Plan Mexico")

And the grandaddy of them all, 7 BILLION and counting for "Plan Colombia."

The result -- more illegal drugs than ever are pouring into the U.S. and Europe.

On "Plan Central America," look for an increased U.S. military presence in CentAm in coming months, in addition to the ones already there.

Read tonight in a Honduran newspaper (El Heraldo of Tegucigalpa) that members of the elite, U.S. unit BORTAC are already in Honduras training police forces there.

Its agents are counted among the nation's most dedicated and highly trained special operators.

The Unit has continued to expand its scope and capabilities to address the growing threats to the United States and its interests abroad. Each year, it continually receives support requests from both U.S. and foreign military and law enforcement entities. To date, BORTAC members have operated in 28 countries around the world. Missions have included international training/advisory functions, counter terrorism operations, counter narcotics operations, high-risk warrant service, dignitary protection, interdiction & patrol operations, and tactical training to other U.S. agencies and military units.

8. Money We Don't Have
money that could be used to save CSBG or LIEAP for the poor. Wars are a waste of money, Iraq, Afghanistan and the war on drugs. Legalize drugs and tax the hell out of them. You can only control legal activities. When I was consulting with the Dutch government I asked why their liberal policy on drugs was good and I was told it saved them billions a year in enforcement efforts, actually lowered the drug usage and then they asked me if our dealers carded the purchasers. Sure gave me a new perspective. They showed me statistics about how much they crippled organized crime by taking away their cash operations in drugs, prostitution and gambling.

11. So glad we're sending our money to these countries
directly like this and indirectly through illegal drug purchases.

That makes far more sense than legalizing drugs, saving this money, and creating jobs/tax revenue here.
