Super Bowl Sets TV Viewership Record
Source: cbs/ap

CBS/AP) NEW YORK - For the second year in a row, the Super Bowl has set a new record for American television viewing.

The Nielsen Co. said Monday that an estimated 111 million people watched the Green Bay Packers outlast the Pittsburgh Steelers in professional football's ultimate game. That tops the 106.5 million who watched the 2010 game between New Orleans and Indianapolis.

The series finale of "M-A-S-H" had held the title of the most-watched TV show in the United States for 27 years. It is now No. 3.

4. What a unique response. I've never read it more than a thousand times in the last few days.
Work on it and you might come up with something that is actually new and clever and not recycled.

6. Comparing 1983 with 2011?
1980 Census == 226,545,805

2010 Census == 308,745,538

About 80 million more now.

Also, MASH was counted based on households that watched vs SB on people. Ranking shows that MASH had 60.2% of households. The 111 million number is about 35% of people in USA.

8. So I wonder how they figure this...
Every sports bar in America had to have a ton of fans there. The one I was at had over 50..and that was just one little place in San Francisco!

By the way, I shared a table with this couple from Alaska who was visiting the city. I think his political leanings were pretty much to the right, however, since he bought us several rounds of Oyster Rockefeller, I had no complaints.

11. They wanted to make sure Reagan was still dead
There was a scurrilous rumor going around that Fox was going to reanimate the corpse of Reagan (you read it on the internet, didn't you - like, right here?), and folks tuned in to be sure that it wasn't going to happen.

12. So you mean ...
... I was one of the only freaks looking on LinkTV for Al Jazeera coverage in Egypt? Didn't find much, so I tuned in for the last 8-10 minutes of the 4th quarter.

13. What fun it was with the family although the game sucked and
the entertainment was worse. It's become an American holiday and it's lot's of fun whether you like football or not.

15. I watched. It was an okay game.

But happy to see the low key and down to earth Aaron Rodgers and Packers win.
I don't see what is wrong with watching sports. I care about politics too. I like to watch movies. I even watch American Idol with my 6 and 5 year olds.

16. We were in an Italian Cafe on Sunday where the question was "why aren't they with girls?" ...
Girls will go along with this for a while - though I think they're nuts to do it --
