The US state department has distanced itself from comments by a US special envoy, to the effect that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak should stay in office during a power transition.

Spokesman Philip Crowley said Frank Wisner's views were his own, and not co-ordinated with the US government.

6. If only our administration.....
would announce that Sarah Pallin should succeed Mubarak and the protesters should be shot in the streets...they will
have come full circle on their diplomatic options. BS indeed!

7. Full Circle? Meaning they started with that strange option?
The administration's policy has shifted, but it is a highly volatile situation - and it has always stayed within a pretty narrow range - far from your suggestion. (Me, I've preferred Senator Kerry's far more consistent position.)

8. Perhaps all over the Map! Better?
"but it is a highly volatile situation" As long as we come down on the side of the winner we're good!! I love a principled
stand. Sen Kerry has no influence here, regardless of what we might wish.

3. Hhummppphhh... maybe because Bush can't leave the country now, and soon the rest won't be able
to either, without getting arrested.

Where would our military stand? With the people or with this
Admin?
In the event it is Leaked that Obama is as much a part of
keeping torture and renditions in place as the old Admin.

Egypt is quite aware that they have been part of the US
Torture and Rendition program.

I am so proud of them standing up.

5. Something is off kilter.
Did the TBTF want Mubarak to know his deposits are safe?

OR did the White House want to send the signal to the other power brokers in the neighborhood that their CIA/Wall Street connections are still good?

Either way it reeks of political BS coming from Pennsylvania Avenue.
