Venezuela’s Chavez Calls for Non-Interference in Egypt
Source: venezuela analysis

In reaction to the six days, so far, of protests in Egypt against president Hosni Mubarak, who has been president for 29 years, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez criticised U.S “meddling” in the issue, and expressed solidarity with the “Arab world”.

Yesterday, Chavez repeated his statements, emphasising that the “sovereignty of these countries be respected” because “declarations are coming from Washington and from other countries in Europe... it’s shameful... to see the interference of the United States, wanting to take control,” he said.

“We don’t want to meddle , but we demand that the sovereignty of is respected and we hope to god that they find a peaceful solution, peaceful agreements, within the legal framework of each country,” Chavez said.

Following the protest, Maduro also talked to the press, expressing his frustration that the United States “tries to involve itself in everything that goes on in the world. Every day they declare and interfere in internal issues of other countries.”

1. You're my boy Chavez, but shut up this time.
It ain't your fight, and it ain't your business.

4. The pro-democracy people have asked Obama for help.
So speaking out strongly in their interests is NOT interfering.

6. +1000
The pro-democracy people have been asking for it and are disturbed he hasn't said more. The pro-Mubarak/pro status quo types want him to continue to support the dictatorship despite millions of Egyptians protesting. I think Chavez is concerned about his own people and doesn't want them to get ideas so is throwing the focus on the US here.

9. Non-interference before, or after, we armed their military to the teeth?
I agree with Chavez in principle, but its a little late for non-interference. Mubarak is there because the US and Israel have believed that it is in our interests that he be there. Billions of dollars of aide have entrenched him in his position, and the army that he allegedly commands is one of the strongest in the world because we built it for him...so one way or another, there's been too much going-around and coming-around already for non-interference.

I hope it ends peacefully, and the Egyptian people form a democracy that looks after their own interests well, and respects the interests of others as they would like to be respected themselves.

15. The Chavez haters on DU are very disappointing. If you have a real
case to be made, make it.

If your comment is "Blah shut up Chavez you poopy face!", please take that trash out to where it belongs.

He is one of the most successful and compassionate warriors for the poor and weak of our generation, and you you know nothing of the truth of it.
