5. From one of the comments in the link.....
""Reports are saying that someone wrote a blog that stated there would be a mass shooting at the college this morning. The blogger stated that they wanted to "Break the Record" for people being shot on campus.. Police are taking this threat very seriously.."

6. My daughter is there. She called me this morning with those words a parent LOVES to hear...
"Now, I don't want you to worry, BUT...."

The kids were told to lock themselves
in their dorm rooms and stay put.

It appears that someone made a threat
on line
to kill students, administrators and
teaches on the campus.

My daughter is NOT worried.

10. I gather it was a more credible threat than that....
they put the adjacent hospital on lock down,
as well as canceling classes at the grade,
middle and high school.

Better safe than sorry, though.

My daughter told me a couple of weeks
ago that she had made the Dean's List there...

When she called, we were both on line looking
for details on the lock down, and I told her
that I had found a tweet that said
that local authorities were calling the perp
"The Dean's List Killer"...

Black humor, but my kid is used to it.

7. My wife and I were watching the local news out of Grand Rapids...
The anchors mentioned that Northern Michigan Univ. was on lock down... stay tuned for more... commercial break... more news...NMU on lock down because of a serious threat... more next...commercial... more about the snow storm... finally ...NMU is on lock down according to their website. No other information given... stay tuned for updates....

It was absolutely ridiculous that how they dragged out the NON story... other than they were on lock down... which they stated in the blurb about the coming news story.

peace

14. In fairness to the local station
They may have teased the story hoping that in the few miuntes of commercial break they'd learn more, and so they dragged it out for a couple of segments. When they didn't get anything right away, they had to fall back on the lame "according to their website" item. Live TV is hard work, and some producer guessed wrong about whether they'd pull some more information in time to make the breaking news worth it.

15. Point made... however, they could say that in the first place...
They don't need to lead...

Just say what they know and tell people they would be updating if any new news occurs.

Just saying..

peace

13. Apparently, some nutcase was bragging on a blog about ...
how he was going to shoot up the campus and out-do
the Virginia Tech killings.

Someone in California read the ramblings and called
the school this morning.

The FBI is combing the area looking for the threatening blogger and
interviewing people who know him, so they're looking
for a real person who is NOT where he usually stays.

:scared:

I think the school did the right thing.

12. and if gun control existed
Would this be happening? You wouldn't shut down what amounts to an entire town over a person threatening to knife people.

Guns might not kill people but they sure makes it easy.

Then these wouldn't be happening?

"Many people" will have witnessed the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old and the shooting of a boy aged 14 in south London, police have said.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Chinese_school_attacks

21 dead, 90 injured in at least 4 attacks (that the government will admit to, strong speculation points to more..)

Especially silly considering the incident in the op is based on a pipe bomb- something already illegal, yet easy to manufacture.

24. guns are the difference between a crazy being able to decide and in minutes
kill dozens.

so it is naturally a topic of discussion.

and the gun advocates, they rarely care about these threads until someone questions the utility of unlimited gun rights.

rarely do they come in and just say, "wow what a shame", instead they post only after something that is truly horrifying to them is brought up --gun control. killing is met with silence, discussion of gun control with panic.

Discussing guns in a rational manner is just as likely as discussing Israel/Arab relations in a rational manner ...

It isn't long before the gleaming knives, pitchforks and flaming torches are bared for the least trifles ...

I leave gun-talk to the expert gun-arguers in the Gungeon ....

THANK GOD for the Gungeon ....

(Oh yeah .... I am atheist ... Thank David instead)
