Broadcaster gives American outlet to Al-Jazeera

NEW YORK — Link TV is giving Qatar-based Al-Jazeera English a long-sought American television audience during the political turmoil in Egypt.

Link says it is simulcasting about 12 hours a day of live Al-Jazeera. Its in-depth coverage of the protests has won praise from journalists and hostility from Egyptian authorities, who closed the channel's Cairo office and detained six journalists in their hotels.

Link TV spokeswoman Julia Pacetti said Wednesday that the network felt it was important to see a perspective on Egypt's crisis not filtered through Western eyes.

Oh noes! A different perspective? I...I have to lie down, now.

7. Murdoch is out of DirecTV.
Liberty bought him out ... now, John Malone, the wheeler dealer of cable/satellite TV, is also a right-winger. However, Malone has not played politics in the Murdoch fashion -- he just usually turns companies he gets a hold of into crap.

4. They are on DISH --
I have watched their half hour show for over a year now -- excellent coverage overall, and especially so on the ME. Their coverage of the Gaza blockade run was incredibly informant and important.

16. I'd like to see our local digital channels use their secondary weather channel for this.
Most of our local digital channels (and I assume many others) have a secondary channel where there's weather 24/7. There's a little thing where they show ads and intermittent updates on the upper right, they could put Al-Jazeera English in there.

they seem like real objective journalists of a past era, rather than the American propagandist model. also valuable to see a perspective from the Arab street point of view.
