Arrested victim of mass shooting speaks out, explains threat
Source: KGUN9.com

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - One of the Tucson shooting victims is speaking out two weeks after a bizarre outburst that landed him not only in jail, but also in psychiatric custody. J. Eric Fuller was arrested after making threatening comments at a town hall meeting a week after the shootings that killed six and wounded 13, including him.

Fuller told KGUN9 he meant no harm when he pointed a camera at a Tea Party activist and said, "you're dead." He said he was trying to make a point about how easy access to guns makes it easy to kill.

"Where Gabrielle Giffords was standing, when I began hearing the gunfire, I turned and looked and there was Jared Loughner, athletically pumping out the rounds, taking aim and firing," Fuller recalled. For him, the memory of the shooting is fresh and sharp. So sharp, it got him into trouble.

He already believed guns are too easy to obtain when he became one of the shooting victims January 8th. A week later he was part of a town hall meeting sponsored by ABC News.

When Tucson Tea Party leader Trent Humphries suggested it was too soon to talk about tighter gun control, Fuller did something that got him arrested. He pointed a camera at Humphries and said, "You're dead." Now, Fuller has apologized for the perceived threat that landed him in hot water with the authorities.

1. I wonder how this would have panned out...
Had Fuller pointed the cell phone camera and said, "Guns are very easy to get. If this was a gun, you'd be dead."

5. I don't think anything would have happened. He would have
been qualifying the statement. And I think that was the difference between what he did and what you suggested.

8. The same way actually
police would have taken that as a threat.

3. It was a dumb thing to do - given the circumstances.
But he DID have a point. I'm betting he could have had a gun as easily as a cellphone. Goddamned death tools - every one of them should be smelted. We have SUCH a sick culture - fascinated with the easy means to end someone's life.

10. Cell phones don't require background checks
though maybe we should start- you could convert one into a remote detonator

4. Tin hat time I suppose, but when someone makes a solid argument
about the hazard of easily carried fire arms in public places, he's immediately arrested and portrayed as being insane?

6. Except that is not what happened.
While that may have been his intention, according to the article, in actuality he threatened someone and was arrested for it.

7. He made a valid point
and this is why we need to have a very adult discussion.

Given the circumstances I am not surprised he was arrested and given a 72 hour hold... but he made a POWERFUL point.

Oh and the time for that discusion was actually at Columbine, but that is another point,
