Cross dressing heats up Republican race
DALLAS (Reuters) - What started as a dull runoff race to field a Republican candidate for a seat in the Texas House of Representatives has heated up due to a controversy over cross-dressing.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported on Tuesday photographs of candidate Sam Walls dressed in women's clothes have circulated among political leaders in Johnson County, south of Fort Worth. Local Republican leaders confirmed separately that they had seen the photographs of Walls in a wig, dress and high heels.

Walls, who has the endorsement of several leading Republicans in the state and was expected to win the run-off, was not available for comment. He said in comments printed in the Star-Telegram that he will not drop out of the race due to a campaign of blackmail.

1. Yes, but does he look GOOD in women's clothing?
I'd like to know if he has style, a certain taste that makes him a knockout. Or does he simply look terrible? These are the questions informed voters are asking themselves.

6. "...(My) opponent is...attempt(ing) to intimate that I am a homosexual,
which I am not,"...Walls told the...Fort Worth Star-Telegram...

Walls, 64, who describes himself as a fervent Baptist, told the paper his family had "dealt with" the issue of his cross-dressing and that he asked for forgiveness.

While Walls is right to protest being cast as a homosexual, he can't have it both ways--either he's not ashamed of being a cross-dresser or he is. And if his family has truly "dealt" with it, they would have "accepted" it, not "forgiven" him. Of course, none of this would be going on if he hadn't been photographed in the first place. I wonder who took the photos?

29. BFD....
Why should he have felt he need to "ask for forgiveness"? So what? Is there something "sinful" about cross-dressing?

No wonder these people have no tolerance for others, they can't even accept themselves as being OK!

11. He sounds like he doesn't want to be pegged as gay.
He sounds pretty indignant.

If he were truly openminded he would become a democrat and work for the best interests of the LGBT community, instead of crusading against others like himself.

BTW, many transexuals are not gay.

18. Well, most likely he is not gay
Sounds more like transvestite to me. But like he said, it is a private matter and I support that view of his. Government, or media, has no business in citizens bedrooms. And if he wishes to stay in closet, he has the right to do so.

In my opinion, bringing up this topic is tasteless, cheap shot. Just like the Republican investigations concerning the whereabouts of Bill Clinton's penis. Of course, the subject was again brought up by Republicans. But I still think liberals should not join in the mudslinging.

Human rights belong to all people, including Republicans.

30.  I reserve the right to sling mud at people who consider
LBGT issues and behavior immoral and condemned by God, but then claim constitutional privacy issues they don't even believe in or support when they get busted for doing the things they hate liberals for.

It's the hypocrisy of the party, not the transgender stuff, that needs to see the light of day. Because I bet this SOB would probably vote against a non-discrimination clause for gays if one came before him.

I don't know who was behind it, but whenever the Texas laws were changed to make Sodomy illegal, they REMOVED the anti-beastiality laws.

Today's Dallas Morning News had it's own story on this today.

Nothing special, except near the end of the story it said reporters had seen the photos, and described him as wearing a conservativedress and wig.

34. What's so unusual? - George Bush cross-dressed all the time (for real)
The New York Times during campaign 2000 ran this photo of a young George Bush in drag while at his all male prep school Andover where he was head cheerleader. Here he is with his "fellow" cheerleaders, dressed in female cheergirl garb, including lipstick, bra, skirt, sweater and wig. That's George in the middle of the photo looking just ravishing:
http://www.nytimes.com/library/politics/camp/061000wh-bush.html
This cross-dressing must be some kind of a Republican thing, maybe in honor of J. Edgar.

(Sam) WALLS

Pictures of candidate in women's clothes surface

By Jay Root

Star-Telegram Austin Bureau

AUSTIN - His family made a fortune on men's work clothing. But it's Sam Walls' apparent fondness for women's apparel that is dividing the Johnson County Republican Party.

Walls, 64, is in the April 13 GOP primary runoff against Burleson real estate broker Rob Orr for the House District 58 seat. As a leading businessman, former Republican Party chairman and benefactor of Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital, Walls seemed the odds-on favorite to win.

The victor is likely to succeed Arlene Wohlgemuth in the Texas Legislature.

But then pictures of Walls in women's clothing -- several of which were provided to the Star-Telegram -- began circulating late last week around Burleson and Cleburne, rival towns on opposite ends of the district.
(snip/...)
