Bennett rips Demos for 'hatred' of Bush

By Christopher Smith
The Salt Lake Tribune

WASHINGTON -- While warning the members of the Senate "not to get carried away with election year rhetoric," Utah Republican Sen. Bob Bennett charged Tuesday that Democrats' attacks on President Bush are based on "personal hatred" of the president rather than facts.

snip..................

Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., who accused Bush of creating "the largest credibility gap since Richard Nixon." Several more Republicans later joined in the effort to answer Kennedy's criticisms. Kennedy charged Bush with breaking the "basic bond of trust" between Americans and the White House because administration officials "repeatedly invent facts" on not only the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq but also the price tag for Medicare reforms and commitments to public education reform.

snip.....

"It would seem in this campaign there are those who have nothing to offer but fear itself," said Bennett, a member of the Senate majority leadership. "Fear and its handmaiden, its standard derivative, pessim- ism." Bennett said while "things are bad" in the Sunni Triangle of Iraq, the deaths of U.S. soldiers and civilian contractors should not overshadow the coming establishment of an Iraqi constitution and new democracy.

1. Bennett just doesn't get it
I don't hate the Shrub. He's an idiot puppet whose brain was turned to mush long before he reached 40. I only feel sorry for him. What I hate are the policies he's undertaken, and the lies with which the puppetmasters around him strive to confuse the American people.

4. What's a riot is the fact that if you replaced the word "Bush"
with Clinton, They would be agreeing 100000%.. Republicans are the most myopic group of people I have EVER seen..

Until Florida, I never "hated" or even "strongly disliked" anyone because they were an "R".. I always saw people as individuals.

What a shock it was to discover that there were indeed people who hated someone so much (Clinton) that they would try to ruin him..

Further investigation only convinces me that I was naive for most of my life.. I have traced the republican hatred thing all the way back to the civil rights era, and surprisingly (or not) Reagan seemed to buy into it too... I am one who thinks that Ronnie had alzheimers (or pre-alzheimers) for his whole presidency. (all the better to manipulate)

20. Racist Reagan launched his campaign: Philadephia,MS ( Mississippi Burning)
Ok, that is a scrunched subject line.

In 2000, Reagan launched his campaign in the town where civil rights activists Shwermer, Cheney, and Goodman were abducted, murdered, and buried in a dike. (depicted in the film Mississippi Burning). That was a GOP message to their racist compatriots. Ronald Reagan was tapping into George Wallace politics.

21. Reagan had always been somewhat moderate, but I think
he had diminished capacity when he RAN for president.. His handlers did all the dirty work, behind the scenes.. I think Reagan just showed up, and said the one liners..

31. Reagan was a moderate?
He opposed the civil rights movement, wanted to use nukes in VietNam, called Carter a traitor for signing the Panama Canal Treaty and said that he hoped the poor people who got food during the Patty Hearst situation died of botulism.

No, he was an extremist long before he became president.

34. I mis-stated my thought..
His "public personna" was that of a kindly gentleman.. Underneath he was not, but his outward presentation fooled lots of people.. Most saw his as a "gentleman"..

Back then, most people did not really delve into the policy as much as the personality..

He was " 20 Mule Team Reagan" or "Movie Star Reagan"..

He was Schwarzenegger without the muscles & accent..

42. Reagan was invited by US Representative T Lott (R)
He said if he were elected he would return local matters to the states - clear code that civil rights would not be enforced by the federal govt.

1955 - Emmet Till murdered in MS

1962 - James Meredith admitted to U of MS law school by federal court order; whites riot - JFK sends 10,000 !!!!! soldiers to Oxford MS to enforce the court order

1963 - Medgar Evers, black NAACP worker, murdered in Jackson MS

1964 - Cheney, Goodman, Schwerner were arrested in Philadelphia MS and handed over BY POLICE to KKK who murdered them - LBJ was so angry he force congress to pass the 1964 Civil Rights Act

and then just 16 years later Reagan promises the federal govt will let MS handle its 'Nigra problem' itself with no fear of 'federal intervention into states' rights'

IMHO - any African-American who votes republican is crazy.

Like JC Watts' dad said, 'A black voting republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.'

3. after 8 years of how they acted about clinton?
it takes a tremendous amount of nerve, stupidity, or amnesia to whine about bush-bashing and bush-hating. hey, bush is the one who's asking for our votes. if we as a nation have grown to hate him, that would be his problem, not ours.

though i know it's their stock in trade, republicans are really beginning to piss me off with their accusations of criticism as knee-jerk hatred for bush.

5. Hello?
What was the Esteemed Senator doing from roughly 1992-2000 when Personal Hatred of Bill Clinton was the nation's number one growth industry? Was he calling for calm and reason? Did he advocate that Repugs reach out to the Duly Elected President instead of spraying venom? Was he a voice of reconciliation whose passionate appeals for civility somehow got buried by that evil old Librul Meeeeedia?

How in hell could I have missed this? I'm SURE it was all over the news!

40. I just did a little research on the guy.
I couldn't find anything that says he instigated any Personal Hatred of Bill Clinton. My impression is, he prefers to play "good cop" and stay above it all, while going along with the rest of the repigs and letting people like Trent Lott do his talking for him. This way, he doesn't look like a hypocrite when he defends W and accuses Democrats of all sorts of things that just so happen to be in the Republican SOP.

7. Of course I hate Bush
This cretin is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent people, predicated on lies.

He has started a war in Iraq that will probably not end in my lifetime, and the cost in innocent lives will reach the hundreds of thousands.

He has increased the threat of terrorism by killing all those innocent people, whose children, relatives, and friends will seek to exact revenge on Americans. They do this by planting a bomb or contributing money, and our lives, and our children's lives will never know peace.

He has presided over economic changes that will destroy the middle class, and enacted policy that will accelerate this destruction and insure the US is a 2 class society.

He is unethical, unprincipaled, immoral, and anti-democratic. If you don't hate someone who is destroying the American dream, and causing death and destruction that will haunt us for hundreds of years, what can you hate?

Now, back to the real problem: how our WH Garden Gnome has managed to unite Muslim factions against the US government three months before the changeover of power. If you want to get hysterical, Bob, that would be a worthy issue.

13. these thugs can dish it out but they sure can't take it
Notice how the Repukes have to fall back on “the Democrats are so hateful and angry” but they can’t counter a single charge? So. Mr. Bennett, if this is only fear, misinformation and personal hatred, please refute the charges. Is it a lie that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and the intelligence used to support the war was shaky? Is it also a lie that the administration concealed the true costs of the Medicare prescription drug bill from congress and that it pushed the date of insolvency up by 9 years? I would like some examples that supports the Bush administration’s credibility. I think he also needs to also take a look at the map and watch the news. The insurgency is outside the Sunni Triangle and involves the Shia population. I saw part of an interview with Karen Hughes and some Repuke congresswoman on Hannity and Colmes and they are all towing the same BS line. In typical fashion Hitler Hannity could not answer a single charge and had to resort to Chappaquiddick and pulling out an old JFK speech and saying how Kennedy was the one actually responsible of Vietnam. They have really circled the wagons around Shrub and are going to follow him into the abyss.

I have YET to see Democrats spend $40 billion (or million, whatever) in taxpayer money JUST to catch bu$hit getting a blowjob - not to mention the rest of OUR money they wasted trying to 'get' Clinton.

50. I'm from Utah...
Where we have two real "peaches" for senators: Bob Bennett, and Orrin Hatch. It's hard to imagine more radicalized right-wing neocon ideologues than these two. Hatch is the worst of the two. On behalf of Utahans who know better, I would like to apologize to America for the damage these two do to our democracy.

Unfortunately, they represent well the narrow-mindedness, bigotry, class-hatred, and self-loathing of many Utah Mormons, who are used to being fed a constant diet of patriarchal, Us-vs.-Them, Right-vs.-Wrong propaganda. This kind of thinking shows the worst of human nature, as seen by the Christian fundamentalist movement in the republican party.
