LePage on NAACP: ‘Tell them to kiss my butt’
Source: Bangor Daily News

SANFORD, Maine — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is once again attracting attention for his comments after he said to tell the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to “kiss my butt.”

While the remark was made jokingly, LePage was already under fire from the NAACP after LePage declined to attend any NAACP-hosted events on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

LePage responded in an interview with WCSH6 by saying, “There are only so many hours in a day, so many hours in a week, and so much that you can do.” When asked for his response to those who say his nonparticipation has become a pattern, LePage laughs in the video and says, “Tell them to kiss to kiss my butt.”

5. Racism?
Did you read the article? And yes, there is still a huge amount of racism in our country, but I don't see how this story can be painted racist.

34. Lepage lied about his black son.
Lepage lied again!!!................................................................
LePage often refers to 25-year-old Devon Raymond of Jamaica as his "adopted son." And although the governor and his wife are putting Raymond through college, and Raymond has attended LePage family gatherings with the LePage's other children on a regular basis since the age of 17, Raymond has not been formally adopted. He is also not a U.S. citizen.

Racism knows no political boundaries. It even infects the great state of Maine.

6. We may be the whitest, but
there are plenty of us who are mortified that this fool is at the helm. He came into office with 37% of the vote - not exactly a mandate.

4. Same as always for repigs
His message boils down to two essential parts

1) "It's a joke! Can't you take a joke???"
2) racism and hatred of minorities

Summary: repigs have found a new excuse for racism, murder-mongering, hatred, etc etc: "I was only joking!"

But the real, real, real message is this:

"Keep the people who aren't in the richest 1% fighting among themselves. Keep the fires stoked on issues that should've been settled decades ago like abortion, racism, teaching evolution, immigration, etc. Invent new ones when necessary. MAKE SURE THEY NEVER REALIZE THE ONLY REAL ENEMY ARE THE RICH"

but in reality they are pansies. The first time something comes up that is actually tough they call the wambulance. Most of them just need their asses kicked in a street fight. Let's see him say that to Charles Barkley.

Gov. to critics of MLK no-shows: 'Kiss my butt'
By CLARKE CANFIELD
The Associated Press
Friday, January 14, 2011; 1:50 PM

PORTLAND, Maine -- Maine's governor is telling critics to "kiss my butt" over his decision not to attend the state NAACP's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations this weekend.

Gov. Paul LePage declined invitations to attend a dinner in Portland on Sunday night and a breakfast in Orono on Monday because of prior commitments.

The NAACP's state director said the group felt it was being neglected by the new governor, a Republican elected in November with tea party support.

When asked by a reporter Friday to respond, LePage said: "Tell them to kiss my butt."

I don't actually have a problem with his non-participation - he has other commitments and has participated in MLK events in the past when he was a mayor, but his lack of civility and sensitivity is appalling. He needs a good ass kicking.

26. LePage is uncouth at best, scary at worst
He was elected by the rural Maine folks. I refer to them as "yankee rednecks". I live in Maine now, but in the southern coastal area which is liberal and predominantly democratic. (LePage did not win any of the cities in Maine. (Perhaps the right to vote has been extended to the moose & deer in the northern section of Maine???) However,in the 1980's I spent 5 1/2 of the longest years of my life in Pensacola . . . "the redneck riviera" & had my "ERA YES' bumper sticker defaced or ripped off my car.....I must have gone through 20 of them. LePage is planning on cutting health care & as many social programs as he can.... I just can't stand to even look at him.:puke:

...size of a cantalope...just after the '04 election -- it had anti-war, union, and pro-Kerry bumper stickers. My kids got Jew-baited off their school bus -- I drove them the last three years before they got their licenses. Neighbors reported the town plow driver regaling his friends with how many of that f*cking liberal's mailboxes he could take out in a single winter.

Maine -- the way life should be.

29. Classless....
I guess there aren't enough African-Americans or minorities in the state so he doesn't have to worry about losing votes but he comes across as a total ass hole. When all the Tea Party types make noise about not hating minorities or they aren't prejudiced, all one has to do is look at this guy. I wonder how the hell did this guy get elected, but I guess if you go to some of the rural areas of the state, some of those quirky folks probably agrees with him! Doesn't this guy have a PR guy or someone to give him some advice. I'm afraid many of these Tea Party types are just like him, but as the Governor of the state, he should know a lot better than this comment.

38. Isn't bringing his son into the conversation...
playing the "race card?" Funny how his ilk oh so love black folks (hello...Alan West...you listening?) when they can be used to deflect their true feelings. Regardless of how he feels about the NAACP, he should have thought about his "kiss my butt" reply, if for no other reason than he does have a black (Jamaican to be exact) son.

Also, I wonder how LePage would have responded to an invitation to speak from the NRA? I'm sure he would called them a "special interest" group and told them to "kiss my butt." :sarcasm:
