Investigators piece together Tucson shooting, test ammo-filled bag
Source: CNN

Investigators say Jared Loughner spent the night at a Motel 6 near his home the evening before the shooting. The electronic motel room key indicated that Loughner's door was opened several times during the night, Nanos said.

After the 22-year-old man left the motel room without checking out, Nanos added, he was pulled over by local authorities after he drove through a red stop-light. He was given a verbal warning and released.

Police say they believe Loughner then drove to the riverbed where he tossed the ammunition-filled bag.

From there, Loughner called a taxi, which took him to the shopping center where the shooting occurred, Nanos said.

With what did he drive to place where he disposed the bag ? He left by foot from his father, where he was asked about the black bag.

3. Because he's batshit crazy.
And he already had what he figured he needed, and he wasn't planning on coming back. He was planning on offing himself when ever he finished shooting people.

Oh, and he's batshit crazy

8. Right. My teenaged goddaughter has schizophrenia and she loves being called batshit crazy.
She just can't get enough of it. Her other favorites are "nuts" and "looney".

4. He didn't think he'd need it.
Ammo comes in boxes. Magazines only hold a fixed number of bullets. He didn't expect to make it out of the shooting alive.

My guess would be that he filled his magazines, put the rest back in the bag, and tossed it. He probably assumed that he wouldn't need them.

Then again, there's always the "what happened to his car?" question. Maybe he was planning on fleeing to that spot after the shooting

13. There were at least 7 boxes, that makes 350 rounds, he had one 33 and two 15 mags

I know he was bad at math, or is 50 not the standard box size ?

Then he wanted change from the cab driver for his $20 bill.

Authorities: Ariz. suspect had 3 more pistol clips

Tucson, Arizona (CNN) -- It could take 10 days to get the results of DNA testing on a black bag that contained seven boxes of 9 mm ammunition -- the same type Arizona shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner allegedly used in the Tucson massacre, authorities said Friday.

15. Cache
He could only carry so much without slowing him down. He likely planned to escape, recover the bag and stock-up with more ammunition.
Nothing mysterious to me. He just didn't get away.

5. He drove off, father gave chase on foot.
At least that's how I understood it. They got into some kind of argument outside the house, and then he jumped into his car and split.

An 18-year-old man walking his dog near Loughner's home found the bag in a wash Thursday morning. He took it to a neighbor's house and called police, said Deputy Jason Ogan, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

Deputies went to the 4000 block of West Soledad Place, where they inspected the black diaper bag, which resembled a backpack, and believe it is the bag Loughner took with him Saturday morning before the mass-shooting outside a Safeway, Ogan said.

14. Law enf. officials said Friday they have photos of Loughner posing with a Glock 9mm in g-string
Edited on Fri Jan-14-11 02:56 PM by jakeXT
TUCSON — Law enforcement officials said Friday they have multiple photos of Jared L. Loughner posing with a Glock 9mm gun next to his naked buttocks and dressed in a bright red g-string.

The photos were turned over to the police by Walgreens, where Mr. Loughner had taken them to be developed. In some of the photos he is holding the gun by his crotch and in others, presumably shot in a mirror, he is holding the gun next to his buttocks, the police said. It was not yet clear when the photos were taken or whether Mr. Loughner had ordered any prints
