Palin E-Mail Hacker Starts Prison Sentence
Source: PC Magazine

The man accused of hacking into Sarah Palin's personal e-mail account during the 2008 presidential election has started a one-year prison sentence, despite a judge's call that he serve his time in a halfway house.

David Kernell, 23, is now an inmate at Ashland Federal Correctional Institution in Kentucky, according to Federal Bureau of Prison (BOP) records. His expected release date is November 23.

In April, Kernell was convicted on two counts of destroying records and unlawful access to a computer; he was acquitted of wire fraud charges. In November, he was sentenced to a year and a day, though the judge suggested he be remanded to a halfway house rather than federal prison.

nothing for torturing and authorizing the torture of Prisoners Of War.
Nothing (but a bailout) for destroying the American economy.
Priceless.

3. How much is it going to cost to imprison this kid for an entire year?
In a federal prison no less...

I understand the Palin groupies want their pound of flesh, but seriously, what does it accomplish to imprison this kid? Yeah, what he did was stupid and illegal, but they could've done something to put the fear of god in him without going overboard like this.

Hopefully when he gets out, he'll never be able to work again and he'll have to go on welfare. :eyes:

4. She probably feels empowered enough at this point to insist upon
the prosecution of everyone making negative comments on her Facebook page!

5. What happened to O'Keefe?
For much, much bigger crimes?

A slap on the wrist - and they made sure it was a soft slap since O'keefe looks like the biggest wimp ever - well, anyway, ever since the hundreds of chickenhawk repigs were counted.

7. Too easy
"...accessed Palin's account by guessing the answers to her Yahoo secret questions and changing her password."

How stupid can you be to have your secret security questions be so easy to guess? As a public figure, why would you even put in a correct answer to a question that anyone could look up?

"What is your favorite pastime?"

shooting wolves from helicopters, you betcha"

__________

on another note, the article is confusing. If the judge called for him to serve his time in a halfway house, why is he going to the big house?

8. Kind of harsh for a prank by a first offender.
I can only hope he learned his lesson before he went in because he won't
learn anything useful while he is there.

11. This is going to sound like a terrible question, BUT...
Is this woman so unbelievably cheap she can't afford to spend ten dollars a month for a www.palin.com hosting account at one of the cheap hosts, stick a real plain "out campaignin', you betcha, click here to send me an e-mail!" index page on it, and NOT have to worry about getting your Yahoo account hacked?

12. I don't know about it being a cheap thing. It's probably an intelligence thing.
She should have known the security questions would be easy to guess. Even with using Yahoo, she could have been smarter about how she set up her account. It's scary to think about a person that dumb having the power of the Presidency.
