Palin to deliver address at gun convention
By Jordan Fabian - 01/14/11 08:59 AM ET

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will deliver a keynote address to a gun convention later this month.

Palin (R) will speak to the Safari International Club (SCI) in Reno, Nev. on Saturday, Jan. 29, according to the group's website. The organization bills itself as "the leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and promoting wildlife conservation worldwide."

The 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee's speech is expected to touch on "her past hunting experiences and how politics affects the current state of hunting and fishing."

The address comes amid a debate in Congress over gun rights that followed the shootings of 20 people at a meet-and-greet event for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.). Palin's speech will likely be watched to see if she references the Arizona shooting, which left six dead and 14 wounded, including Giffords.

14. She wants to keep her "gravy train" going
She has no real interest in running for office but in fleecing her believers.

BTW Real hunters (such as me) can tell she is a fake when it comes to hunting & guns
but she will serve up "red meat" to the mouth breathers who will be there to see her.

7. I hope the rest of our Congress members go ahead and beef up security.
Something tells me Palin wants to see more blood and she won't stop until she does.

At the very least, a decent person would cancel that in light of recent events, at least postpone it. Not her, though. Palin is hellbent on inspiring as many assassins as possible. :puke:

She has NEVER downed a moose and probably couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a shotgun. She's a joke up here among real hunters - and we hunt for meat, not for sport.

18. Funny thing...
I looked all over their website and didn't see any mention of "a gun convention", nor any mention of defending 2nd amendment rights...

Overview of SCI/F

Since inception, Safari Club International (SCI) has become a truly amazing organization. Our approximately 190 chapters provide us with a way to make and gather with friends, our Convention is a place to celebrate and enjoy our hunting heritage, and our Foundation is recognized as a world leader in wildlife conservation and education programs.

A quick look at our financial reports to the US Internal Revenue Service reveals that SCI spent nearly $300 256million on hunter advocacy and wildlife conservation since inception (actual value is $278,186,963 from 1979 to 2008). The growth of the organization in both hunter advocacy and conservation led to a strategic decision to separate the two efforts into separate businesses in 1999: Safari Club International, a 501( c )4 hunter advocacy organization, and Safari Club International Foundation, a 501( c )3 charitable

Safari Club International is serious about protecting hunting freedoms.
In many ways, SCI is first in legislation, litigation and international advocacy for hunting.

* SCI has its own lobbyists in Washington DC, in addition to a well-staffed office on Capitol Hill. SCI is a 501(c)(4) organization that has a connected PAC.

* SCI regularly attends worldwide meetings, such as CITES, to speak up for hunting.

* SCI provides strong support for grassroots chapters who work at the state and local level to preserve hunting freedom.

* SCI partners with other organizations as well as federal and state agencies in litigation against anti-hunting initiatives.

* SCI is a leader in hunter education and wildlife conservation, preserving wildlife for the next generation of hunters.

More so... they probably have as much in common with the gun control crowd as they do the NRA.

They're the type of hunters/gun owners lovingly referred to in firearms circles as "Fudds" or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Zumbo">"Zumbos
the former referring to the Buggs Bunny character, the latter to the former Hunting editor for "Outdoor Life" magazine".

The majority of them (not all), will gladly support gun control measures as long as their precious triple-hand rubbed, walnut stocked exquisitely engraved and silver inlaid bolt action hunting rifles are protected.

In the past, they've shown great willingness to enact bans on military "assault weapons" and "hi-capacity" magazines.

They're fair weather 2nd amendment supporters at best... Brady Campiagn bootlickers at worst.

43. I would agree that the "gun convention" part is not very accurate.
"Hunter's Convention" would be more accurate. Or why not just say "Safari Club International" and forget trying to characterize it? One of my pet peeves is the use of the headline to sensationalize - or to make clever puns.

a heinous shooting. It's what lobbyists do. Quickly move to stop any notion of gun control and stir up the masses that they're about to lose their rights. Perfect forum for a religious rightwing narcissist with a bruised ego. Her ambition is going to destroy her. This is a pretty soulless act for a mother in light of what just happened.

28. I think Palin is delusional.........
She has two competing drives..one to make as much money (of course Jesus preached that only the wealthy will inherit the kingdom of God) and to be a political figure.

She has to pander to her base because they will worship her. And she needs to get as much money as possible to feather her own cap.

This offers her an opportunity to do both. She is nothing but an opportunist.

I really don't expect much to come of her future political plans. I think she will remain very influential but I doubt she will actually run in 2012 or anytime thereafter.
