Judge: Militia rebellion charge should stick
Source: Associated Press

DETROIT —
Members of the Lenawee County-based Hutaree militia have failed to persuade a judge to recommend dismissal of a seditious conspiracy charge.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Komives said Wednesday the charge should stand during the pre-trial stage of the case.

Nine people were charged last spring with conspiracy to commit rebellion against the U.S. and other crimes. Defense attorneys have argued that no rebellion was afoot, just evidence of offensive comments about law enforcement. They say it’s simply free speech.

1. Where does free speech end and rebellion begin?
Wouldn't that be an interesting conversation to have with King George III of England and Patrick Henry.

I'll bet they'd have differing viewpoints.

2. Quote about rebellion
"In monarchy the crime of treason may admit of being pardoned or lightly punished, but the man who dares rebel against the laws of a republic ought to suffer death"
Samuel Adams

5. We are now a fascist state; a state that no longer represents its people.
Draw your own conclusions.

But just maybe, sometimes the right is right despite itself.

6. Quick refresher: These guys supposedly wanted to kill a cop, then blow up more cops at the funeral.
An informant blew the whistle on them before they attacked anyone, though. Not clear how far their planning went. Was it just talk? Doodles on bar napkins? Did they have a stockpile of explosives? Did the informant have a grudge?
